I was talking to my old college roommate about that very same thing a few days ago. (weak military and weak government).

Reports say the consulate was "unmanned" - what's up with that? And how far was the strike from our consulate? Not to minimize the danger, but how about some details instead of sensational headlines. How far away was the strike? 1/4 mile? 2 miles? 6 miles? 10? Give us the straight story for once.
The headlines almost imply that we were attacked. True or not?

Well, I can't find an article that gives the exact distance down to the inch for you but, "the neighborhood surrounding the consulate" was struck. And Iran has zero problems taking credit for what they did.

I believe it was still under construction so no one was working there. There's something weird going on. Supposedly they weren't attacking the consulate but the US won't say what they were targeting. Given it's proximity to Iran I'm wondering if there were Israeli or American spies in the neighborhood.

I did read one report that indicated that Iran thought there were Israeli spies or contractors working "neat or at" the consulate.
