I found some more pictures last night. I was hoping to find one of the antlers before they were put on a mount.

Did someone smoke in the house? That’s usually what causes the antlers to turn color.

A wood stove will stain them also. Soap and water will clean it off. Just cleaned a few I had in the garage.

Just going to go off what I see in the pictures. Imo I don't think the older mount pictures and the skull cap pictures are the same. If you look where the bases come out on the skull cap and where the antlers are on the full mount I think two different locations. The mount looks like they branch out from either side of the eyes and skull cap tends to be where you'd normally see antlers form. The skull cap looks awful real to me on how the antlers form to the skull. I get there are amazing things done with taxidermy but looks awful legit.

Did someone smoke in the house? That’s usually what causes the antlers to turn color. In the old days some taxidermist used lacquer on the antlers, it tends to yellow with age. I just founds this out when I was looking on youtube for the best ways to clean mounts.

I contacted Keith Snyder today regarding these antlers. He said he did not have it X-rayed and he no longer owns it. I checked the record books and it says the owner is Bass Pro Shops. It also says it was picked up on 1/1/1983. I'm fairly certain my dad owned the antlers at that time. I'm going to contact the taxidermist who put the sheds on a shoulder mount and see if he has records of what year that was done. Hopefully he has some information that might help. It's currently listed as the 20th biggest typical of all time.

It just doesn't set right with me that it's in the hoosier record book. It's keeping someone else from having that spot. And the antlers aren't even from Indiana!

I will try to talk to someone there also. What struck me funny about my message conversation with Keith today was that he stated he hasn't owned the buck since 2019. But when I first talked to him in February of 2022 and he said he owned it and would have it X-rayed.

If Basspro owns it nothing will change Basspro will some Day own the Huff Buck and Keith will recoup his money plus some

Just a guess.
