Greghopper posted a link to an antler collector who owns the Huff buck. I checked out his page and browsed through a post of giant typical pictures. One immediately stood out to me. It used to hang on our living room wall when I was a kid. It was a set of sheds put on a shoulder mount. My dad sold it for Christmas money when I was young. I've always wondered where those antlers ended up. I sent Keith a message. Hopefully he responds. I could give him some back ground information on them. I'd love to know what that rack would have scored if it wasn't a set of sheds. Years ago I contacted the guy who bought it from my dad. I was trying to track it down. He had sold it and wasn't any help. Thanks for helping me solve a mystery Greghopper. If you want to see the post of the giant typicals, search for Keith Snider on Facebook.

That is crazy.....wonder who the female is in the pic? The mystery is just starting. I just talked to Keith. He said that buck is being claimed as found dead in Ohio county and was the indiana state record. I know for a fact it was sheds. I just confirmed some details with my dad and I'm calling Keith back.

The great thing about shed mounts is you can make the spread just about as wide as you want..
This one look exceedingly wide?

Local COs probably remember a deer of this caliber. Could ask them to help confirm they were sheds. Ohio co to small for them not to remembered

It's the Rompola buck all over again...LOL That was my first thought. To claim it as the Indiana state record wouldn't the buyer want some proof? Someone had to score it. If it was sold to him as the record would't he want the score sheet and at least a copy of the paperwork of the record certificate? I would assume that a rack of that size would go for a good sum of money.

I spoke with my dad and again with Keith. He sent me this picture of the rack on a skull plate. It's definitely the same antlers but we are 100% sure they were sheds. My dad bought them from a guy in Ohio for $75. I remember when I was a kid I would spin the nuts up and down the bolts that were sticking out of the bases. My dad is looking for more pictures. I made it clear that we aren't trying to get any recognition from the deer. We are just trying to get the correct information out there. My dad bought and sold the rack. He did not find or kill it. He has never claimed that.

My dad on the right and the guy who bought the rack from him. He's the guy that wrote these books.

So you’re saying the sheds were placed on the skull plate? Go figure!

So you’re saying the sheds were placed on the skull plate? Go figure! What I'm saying is, the antlers we had were sheds. My dad had them put on a shoulder mount to hang on the wall. He sold them and the buyer knew they were sheds. Sometime in the last 35 years they ended up on a skull plate.

I am seeing some coloration differences on the antlers between the different photos, maybe just lighting but maybe not. Wonder if the set your dad bought were replicas and the real set is what Snider has?

The taxidermist who mounted it never said anything about them being replicas.

It's the Rompola buck all over again...LOL What a mess that has always been! On Michigan Sportsman, there is a thread going with almost 2k posts. About as controversial as the "it" vax. Lol

The guy in pic with your dad is Larry Lawson from my understanding collector and author.
