Meny reasons a hunt can be satisfying, family, friends, meat in freezer, nice buck, you name it. But these can be short lived. With a lot of unsatisfying hunts in between. With all the hours days and weeks i spent on stand in my life i can only remember 3-4 times a hunt was unsatisfying and that is because of the loss of an animal. So why are 99.9% of my hunts so satisfying? I think it is because every time i go hunting i do NOT expect to see deer. I go to see the beauty of nature in the raw. The bugs, birds, leaves, trees, snow, squirrels doing their thing in their habitat basically unaltered by us. Just last night, i had been in the stand less than 30 min and not seen a deer but the hunt was all ready a success because the sun shining thru the yellowing leaves was breathtaking. All i could do was sit and smile at the sight. When i left the camper it was hot,too hot. I did not expect to see deer so the sight of a doe made the hunt that much more satisfying, then the sight of a buck, OH BOY! I did take a buck last night but the hunt was already a success before the arrow was released . The recovery of the buck last nite was grulling. The mental tourcher of thinking i had failed the deer by making a bad shot was horrific. But with luck, pacents and persistence the entire hunt was a total success. I am on cloud 9 today(like i am every time i take a deer) not just because i took a deer but because i had the opportunity to sit in nature and receive the sweet bounty it has to give in so many ways. These are the reasons i think my hunts are so satisfying to me and even tho i donot hunt as much as i use to i cherish EVERY hunt for what it is and not for what i want it to be

I think a lot of us think along the same lines. Congrats again on your buck.

Older I get the more peace I find in the great outdoors. Killing has become secondary to just enjoying God's creations.

What a great piece! Straight from the heart.
I agree, and with age and wisdom, am following suit. It's not all about the harvest anymore. It's still the end goal, and I do want something to show for my effort, but am enjoying nature more now than ever before.

I love the total experience! The working the land to supply food for mother nature’s creatures to growing tree from seed to plant that will be around long after I’m gone . The excitement of opening day till the last day of late bow season & spending time with friends & family. God has truly blessed me to experience all I have in my lifetime

A lot of create comments and agree. Just this past 6 day hunt was a blessing. I don't have to have venison in my freezer today in life, but years before with three boys it was a big help. Getting a deer today is a bonus for the freezer. Now this might change with all the craziness that is going on.

I couldn't agree more. I ended up having to walk nearly 2 miles with my deer in my pack this year but even with a heavy pack I caught myself looking around enjoying the beauty of it all. I actually stopped a took a couple of quick pics before I took off.

I could not agree more. I just love to be in the great outdoors enjoying nature. Getting away from work and the hectic world. I have been out 37 times so far this season and have logged 125.5 hours on stand and have been lucky enough to put 2 antlerless deer in the freezer. I like to try to get a good buck with a bow and let the young ones walk. I lower my standards some during gun season because it is more chaotic. Plus hunting this much I have to usually save my marriage by shooting a buck in gun season that I probably would have passed in bow season. I have passed 12 young bucks so far this year and my wife always tells me we can't eat the antlers.

I have always loved nature and hunting gave me an excuse to sit in the woods for hours. The meat was MUCH needed because of finances but i never felt pressure to take a hope i hit him shot. I hunted with the same bow for 20 years(until it got stolen)and gun(tc muzzelloader) for over 30 yrs until i went with the savage smokeless i hunt with still
