Results came back...he was 5.5. Milo Hansen's World Record is said to be 3.5/4.5 by teeth wear. Not 100% accurate but most studies suggest 70% ish in accuracy.

I'm no QDMA genius but I thought lower jaw bone was the only accurate way to judge deer age? Assuming they used the lower jaw to figure age on the Hanson buck.

Originally they said 3.5 as I recall but later said possibly 4.5. Most litature you read on buck says 3.5/4.5. Biologist use teeth wear from lower jawbone to guesstimate age. Science has gotten pretty good at.

I looked into it a few years ago and I believe the cost was around $50 with a four week turnaround you could pay more for faster service. The deer in my avatar was aged by a QDMA biologist looking at the lower jawbone at 3.5 years. He then asked do you have a picture of the buck, I showed him a photograph of the rack and he said oh possibly 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 years old.
That was the reason I checked on the cementum aging process however, I never went through with it. As far as tooth wear I believe it would make a big difference where the deer lived because a deer that lived in a sandy or dusty area would have more tooth wear than a deer that did not.

Thanks for posting that link. I saw something interesting on Keith Sniders Facebook page unrelated to this buck. I'll make a separate post.

Not seen sheet BUT I have a few friends that have killed bucks that have made the B&C book. Just about all have said it was a pain in ass and not a real fun experience. 1 said he would not enter another in the B&C book.

Never known anyone that has said that was their experience with B&C….but that doesn’t make it not possible!

He's not far behind Kinker IMO probably as good as Hoosier Trapper. Two Mile Taxidermy 1925 W County Road 60 S, North Vernon, IN 47265 www.facebook.com/Two-Mile-Taxidermy-402169389855852/

I would have gone with Kinker or Stoops for the original mount. Guess it was probably sold before it was mounted?

Charlie mounted my 2019 Buck. Great guy, full-time taxidermist, and pretty reasonably priced. (My normal taxidermist was sick and referred me to Charlie in 2019). Would not hesitate to use him again.
