Started the day in the woods , ending the day in the woods two counties over. Got the wind blowing my scent over the field , and crossing my fingers ! I was able to score a tripod stand that needs a new seat for $32, $20 in gas , and a hour and a half of time 🤙🏽 I’m excited. I can really utilize this thing here soon!

That tree has been hit every year for 12 years. Communal rubs like this are referred to as "Sign posts". Usually find them in travel corridors and high deer traffic areas. Although most of rubbing and visits are at nighttime they are PRIME stand locations during seeking and chasing phases of rut. I have a couple on my property and these stand locations produce year after year. My advice is hang a stand close to trail its on, on prevailing downwind side and once pre rut kicks in hunt as much as possible. Key is to not hunt to often early and scent up area, you need to wait till late October when seeking is underway. I don't hunt these stand locations till after OCT.28th as a general rule or you may run the mature bucks out of area.

I have a trailcam down lower in the valley that watches that trail and it is loaded with bucks but nothing huge. This is the biggest I got on it.

Just got out of my backyard stand. Started to rain. Let a BB walk and doe with BB + fawn. Taking it easy. Just seeing how it felt. Balmy 77 degrees and rained cooled to 73.

My boy passed hunters ed a few weeks ago and is chomping at the bit to get a deer. The neighbor granted us permission to his 4 acres right behind our house, so we put a blind and camera up. This guy is pretty regular along with a handful of does and fawns. I have a feeling that with the temp swing this weekend this deer is killable. He was on camera all last weekend several hours before dark Fri-Sun. This is a spot that holds quite a few does and come rut its crazy with activity. I had a 160" class 10 on camera in my backyard last fall. My daughter caught 12 different bucks on camera in the yard last fall in less than a week. Fingers crossed Braxton gets a shot.

Went out last night to hunt a transition area between two beddings areas. It has lots of acorns falling and a lot of sign as well. It is about 5/8 of a mile from where I park. Got my sticks set going up the tree and got my saddle set up. When I had parked my truck, I checked the weather and it said 30% chance of rain. 45 minutes later right after I got set up 22' in the tree, it was down pouring. I don't mind rain during a hunt, its nothing more than a nuisance to me. That being said, do you guys know what I'm talking about when there's a lightning strike and it lights up everything around you? Like the daytime gets brighter, almost too bright to keep your eyes open? Yea, when that happened, I don't know if I've ever taken a set down and gotten out of a tree quicker. I guess all you can do is laugh sometimes and be thankful that you weren't turned into a deep-fried twinkie 22' up in a tree. Went to a different spot after the storm had passed to try sticking a doe, but had no such luck. Saw a 1.5 year old buck and that was it.

Hunted my woods this evening because they cut corn. I-walked in the woods looking for a good tree for my climber and jumped a huge 10-12 point 10 yards from me. The weeds in this woods are waist high so I didn’t see him till he jumped up. I set up where he bedded hoping he would walk back in the area. He didn’t but had a 8 point bed down 50 yards from me till dark. Also so saw 2 does. Mainly went out to set up for Saturday morning, going to rain all day tomorrow.

No worries, not the first time I’ve jumped deer in this woods only to see them again the next day. This is the only cover for a couple of miles so they come here regularly.
