Ought to lose hunting rights year and ticketed for false informing. What a idiot...

In this day in age, how in the world did he ever expect to get away with that?
I'm glad the truth came out. It's unfortunate that the lust for notoriety and greed to be recognized in a book came at such a cost for him.
Stories like his cast all the doubts and shadows upon real hunters that take the once in a lifetime trophy book animals.

Settles should be charged with false reporting and the story that he sent to F&S is the evidence. It would serve him right if the buck was confiscated and his hunting rights taken away for a few years. There has to be consequences for lying.

Not the smartest decision. Looks like the plans for big $$$$$ will fall through too.
The downside is it will give those that claim every big buck comes from a deer farm some credence.

High fence deer are usually pretty obvious.I agree he should face some type of consequence and the rack confiscated and turned into dog chews.

How bad must a person want to be known in the whitetail world to pay (lord only knows how much) to kill a giant penned deer then try to check it in another state so that (I can only guess) he could get his 15 minutes of fame (thanks Field and Stream) and try to go around telling his story and making a few dollars along the way.
IMO, the state of Kentucky should ban him from hunting for a few years. As far as confiscating his deer, it's a legally killed deer (a penned deer, but a legally killed deer nonetheless) so I don't see how anyone could take his buck.
What I do hope happens is that every time he looks @ that buck it doesn't bring him pleasure, but the feelings of guilt and embarrassment for trying to pull off such a ridiculous stunt.
In the end, it's just another sad tale that illustrates how utterly goofy some people get when it comes to big bucks and the notoriety that can sometimes come with killing them.

According to the website of the place where he actually killed the deer Patoka River Whitetails. The price for a 289 inch deer is more than $9900

The dude lied with such incredible detail in his original story with F&S down to the fact he had to use a timer for harvest photos....dude is a downright ignorant fool and can play stupid all he wants but is just a scumbag IMO as even now he still won't just own what he did.

I could it being confiscated like items are confiscated that were purchased legally but used in committing a crime. I doubt he will feel any guilt and embarrassment at all, If that were true, he never would have tried to pull what he did.

That hunter is cool, he suspected and basically knew he had a high fenced deer coming to bait. Young man is having a blast with all this and I even messaged a bit on facebook on a page with him about his harvest photos. I told him to petition Kansas DNR to issue him another tag if they already haven't - as of then it sounded like there was confusion if he even legally had to tag it as a Kansas wild deer harvest.

All of these places are close to me. I really didn’t know there was a pay to hunt high fence business around here. Henderson county KY has some good deer hunting along the Ohio river. Guess the young man thought he was going to be a hero by making the story up.

I never knew it was there either, I guess I've never really looked into high fence operations so if one never looks for such things one doesn't know they are there. I thiught there was some legislation about places like this when "Bellare's Place" or whatever their name was, was in a bunch of hot water. I thought they were illegal in Indiana.

Maybe one of those high fence deer will escape and one of us might see it on our hunting property.

They are controlled by BOAH now they became officially legal few years back www.in.gov/boah/species-information/cervids-deer-elk/licensed-hunting-preserve
