I *think* I know what happened, but I'm not sure. I have a food plot that has beets/radish/turnips in 3/4 of it, and I planted the other 1/4 with clover. All planted at the same time. The brassica bulbs are about 2"-3" dia, the clover is non-existant. I did not put down an exclusion basket to check growth on the clover but there is no stems, no green at all in that part of the plot.
Lack of rainfall??
I did see 5 does and 4 fawns in the brassicas last night.

Clover is slow to get started, particularly when it's dry. You may need to reseed when we get some moisture.

I read once that fall is the best time to plant clover for the same reasons steiny mentioned.

Right now I think I will overseed with either wheat or oats, and overseed earlier in the Spring with Clover (frost seeding is what I'll shoot for). The longer I mess with food plots, the more I realize in this area there is very little late summer/fall moisture, certainly not enough to germinate seeds and keep them growing. Last 4 years I have planted Fall food plots earlier and earlier, now I have resigned myself to the fact that if I don't get Spring plots planted I will not have Fall plots.

Yeah, I've had lousy luck getting turnips going in fall plots the last couple years.

Yeah, I've had lousy luck getting turnips going in fall plots the last couple years. Driest year I have ever seen up here, I planted 3rd week in July and my turnip field looks awesome. I usually wait until August but figured with it being so dry I better get them in early.
