Looks like that crossbow I purchased for the kids is going to get some use. I had a mountain bike crash a week ago that left me with a bruised rib and unable to shoot a bow.

Ouch! Hope you get healed up quick.
Crossbows are a valid hunting tool. They are NOT a rifle as some suggest. They still have plenty of limitations and drawbacks. Just glad we have such a wide variety of choices to stay in the woods

A crossbow could also be too painful to cock with that kind of injury, unless of course you have a crank which I assume you do.

I do not have a crank but I can deal with cocking it, I can't currently hold a bow for a comfortable amount of time, let alone draw enough to be proficient for season. I already have to lift at work and my body let's me know when I have, I need to somewhat minimize my risk of worsening the injury. Ironically, the only exercise I can currently do without pain, is the one that tried to kill me in the first place.

If you can swing it, a crank is a game changer.

I had to go to a crossbow because I'm old to the point that I can feel the strain in my shoulders when pulling back my compound bow & don't want to blow my shoulder out. After buying a crossbow I found I couldn't cock it, so I bought a crank. After cocking it about 100 times with the crank I can cock it with the rope now, I guess it loosened up some. But I can't cock it time after time like shooting on the range, I still use the crank at the range.
