I got a look at a cave in southern Indiana. It was recently acquired by a Christian camp along with 20 acres that promised easier access to a remote part of the camp. This is the smaller part--there is a larger chamber described as "big enough for a square dance." Imagine this on private property.

one common way to know if native Americans camped there is to look at the ceiling. there is often smoke stains on the roof. generally fires were near the mouth of the cave for obvious reasons.

Yes, I'd like to look closer. Always in a hurry! I'm sure they made use of it at some point. Too convenient, dry, and well located.

Are there bats in there? Bat caves were sought out for Civil War powder production.

What is the name of the cave? You know that's a good question. If he told me I forget. I will ask!

Pretty much every cave in Indiana is catalogued and mapped. There are books and online resources via the National Speleogical Society and their local affiliates known as Grottoes. BIG, the Bloomington Indiana Grotto, CIG, the Central Indiana Grotto, and others. If it has been known for a long time, it may be in an older book called Caves of Indiana, by Richard Powell.
When I was younger I was quite active in caving.
