Does anyone here make wingbone calls or know of anyone that makes them? I harvested a bird this year and would like to make one but have no idea what I am doing, even after watching a few videos and reading a little online. Was wondering if anyone here knew anyone or if anyone might be able and willing to show me how to do it since this would be my first effort.

I have one that a friend made for me. I can post detailed pictures of it if that would help.

That's who I watched. I have done about 5 now. Jake's and hens sound better to me than a longbeards. The smaller diameter has a more high pitched squeak that sounds better, to me.

I watched his video earlier and think I’ll just go by that and see what happens.

Cleaning the bones out is the hardest part. I put bones in a pan of water and did a very slow boil. More like a simmer to slow cook them. I kept cutting meat off until they were clean. I cut the joints off and worked at the insides. Once it was cleaned out I added some dish soap to fresh water and let that simmer a while longer. Just fit them together the way I wanted and expoxied them in place.

A crock pot works great for cleaning small bones like that. Keep the water just below a boil if using another method.

I have made quite a few over the years and prefer jake bones and if I kill a hen in the fall they are even better. They are not hard to make at all. I even made a call from the tube of a papermate pen, I dubbed it "The Pen Hen" it sounds really good.

I have made several wing bone calls for myself, family and friends. I have noticed at least to my ear the smaller bones from hens and Jake’s make better sounding calls. You can make them as fancy or as plain as you wish.I tend to stay with plain. I find it is easier for me to get a decent sound from wing bone over a diaphragm. I also use a box and sometimes a crystal pot.

I am so sorry if I forgot. I just checked and still have a set in the freezer. As said, hens and Jake's sound better to me. I will work on this next.

I finally got around to making one from the bird I killed behind the house last spring. My first go at it and it’s definitely not perfect. I need to make it look good now, but it functions. Need some more practice to get it where I’m good with it as well. Pretty easy to do though.

When it makes sweet music, people look and say "what the heck is that?", they dont really care if it's pretty. Lol. Wait till you kill a bird with it! You talk about a sense of accomplishment!
