Those applying for and recieving unemployment have to prove they are looking for a job. I totally agree with this. If they fail a drug test the unemployment should stop too. As many signs as I see for jobs a person should be able to find something. If they do not have skills this is a good time to get experience.

No kidding. I was offered a job the other day making 75k starting. I have no experience in the field what so ever and they were willing to send me off to be trained to do something only a handful of people in the country can do.
The only reason I was even offered the job is because they know I would show up on time and work, and that was good enough for them.

Here's the problem with that. I was at a McDonald's one day and a guy walked up to the counter. Asked for an application. Lady gave it to him and he says can you sign this paper. It was for unemployment. He had zero intention of filling the app out as he threw it away as he walked out the door.

I've said the same thing about food stamps and welfare for years. Can't stay off the drugs, be kept off the Gvt dime. Of all places, I heard today that the local Hooters has been closed for weeks due to lack of staff.

Glad to hear this. And places like McDonald's, or all employers, should refuse to sign any form until AFTER the application is turned in. They should be allowed to report back that the individual was unqualified, failed to show up for the interview, offered a job, etc...
Checks and balances

What I’d like to see happen The State could easily find guys like me that need help and would hire and train people So your on food stamps unemployment here’s 10 to 20 different jobs different hours and skill sets available so child care and other obligations could be worked out pick one be there Monday at 6 ready to work.
The State could now pay me 50 percent of the unemployment for training them paperwork cover cost drug testing for say 90 days if they don’t show up fail drug test they get the ax and no unemployment or any other benefits Keep in mind I’m paying wages insurance what ever would be normal if I’d would of hired them so I’m not getting a free ride just some assistance for doing it and like I said maybe 60 90 days Now if my jobs not for you don’t like can’t do it what here’s the list pick another maybe give them 5 8 try’s to find a new career
My logic It’s helping my company grow increasing tax dollars for the state cutting unemployment cost 50 percent I’m sure crossover training to some degree we as a state would have better trained workforce
I can’t hardly see any company not wanting to be on the list gets rid of job fairs hiring and then not showing up for the job and the list goes on
Don’t get me wrong I’m all about helping my fellow man when’s he’s down but at some point they need to help themselves also

What's sad is how fast this situation came about! The entitlement driven mentality has shown its ugly face!

Several years and a couple Presidents ago unemployment was changed from a 26 week maximum to 99 weeks. The idea of not working and getting a check until you found the job you want has been around for a bit.

My oldest is 16 and starting to look for his first summer job. He is starting to see the hassles of online applications andtheir filters.
He applied to a car wash with a friend as a reference and received an automated email that he did meet the qualification requirements. He tried to apply in Burger King and the online application asked for prior work experience and it would let him complete the application without work experience. He mowed and landscaped for a couple of ladies last year (who ironically work for unemployment) and I told him to put that, but Dad doesn't know anything because that's not a real job.
I also told him to do it the old fashioned way and pound the pavement. Meeting someone face to face shows initiative and stands out.
...but what does Dad know.

Around here they have signs that say open interviews tues 11 to 5 or along that line everywhere you look just walk in the store and tell them you’d like a interview

They want them reliant on the government. And when reliance on the government is as comfortable as it is currently, it is very easy for people to have the desire to rely on the government. We have positions come up (at an electric co-op, which is a VERY good job), sometimes 50 people apply, and the majority of the people we call for an interview, don't even show up. If they can show the government that they applied for a job, but "didn't get the job," they can stay on unemployment.

I think the biggest change came when the government added the extra $300 to the weekly max for Covid relief. Indiana was at 390 at week max then it jumped up to $690 with Covid!
