Taking my boy on our first trip to Lake Erie for walleye. Taking off Friday to go and sight see and find our way ahead of time for the Saturday outing. We are going on a charter to let the pro put us on the fish. It's a 34' catamaran, and will be 6 of us fishing. We were scheduled to go last year but the covid mess cancelled/postponed it. The captain was very accommodating and booked us for the same weekend this year. He suggested where to stay and what to check out prior to the charter. Really looking forward to it as the weather looks good coming up. I will post pics of a hopefully successful trip.

That's the very same kind of boat we fish on, great on rough days, plenty of room.
The weather forecast looks great and fishing has been excellent.

He came highly recommended from a previous client. He was at a local bait store early last year with info. 20+ year Lake Erie western basin guy. Should do the trick. My boss fished last weekend in the horrible weather with 5 footers on Saturday. Four guys still got 31 keepers in 2 days (18-22"), twice as many dinks, and a bunch of sheephead and some catfish. As long as junior is doing the catching, he can crank all mine in to.

Well boys, it was one to remember!!! The day before our charter, the boat got 42 keepers by 10:30am for their client! He said it was the best of the year so far. We met the captain Friday afternoon to find the boat and get everything figured out. They were optimistic for us, except rain and some light storms were to hit Friday night. They ended up being 50mph, hail, and good rains! So Saturday morning, we get loaded up and drove thru the chocolate milk colored waters. The captain and first mate noted the waves on the break wall and said it was gonna be one of those days. Yep, 5-6ft waves greeted us with 28mph sustained wind. It was really something! The forecast was wind and waves to be lessening later in the day, and it did! A few miles out it was a little better, but pretty much nobody could stand up. You really had to brace yourself and be careful. We trolled, and ran planer boards. You are expected to help and participate as much as you can. Which for me is required, as I wouldnt bother going if I just sat there, which I've seen many guys do. Stacking 6 rods per board and setting 16 rods total is really a sight to see! Other captains kept the radio on fire asking questions of our captain. He gave out info unselfishly the entire time. By days end, most guys were reporting 2, 4, and 5 fish boated. That's tough! We did ok, per him. Lol. We lost a few, some right at the boat, by 2 inexperienced fisherman (one kid). We pit back about 6 dinks. We did end up with 30! We will definately be using Captain Ken Burress and first mate Tim again on Room For More charters. Friendly, yet stern to teach you and get you to understand each step, and keeping you interactive. They do not clean fish, or have facility for you to use. The local bait store will process and package quickly for a fee tho. Luckily my little fisherman son is handy with an electric knife now so he took care of business. My boy got a few extra opportunities at fish as I called him to take my place a few times. He caught a couple real nice ones, and handled the fight very well. All in all, we had a good time, (would say great if the weather would have been friendlier.) After we settled up, I gave both the captain and first mate a healthy tip each and personally thanked them for everything, as I expressed interest in using them again, but not necessarily with the same party. They both mentioned that my son and I were at the helm the entire day to help work the rods and duties. I wouldnt have it any other way as I want to learn and ask questions.

My first trip on Lake Erie was terrible with rain, wind and waves. Our group only caught about 10 fish that day. You will have rough days like that in the Western Basin. I am glad your group had a great time.

I am glad your group had a great time. Thanks... it was a lot to take in. Future trips will be easier knowing the program. We ate rather lightly prior and during, and took Dramamine before leaving out on the high seas. We also came dressed accordingly, and so our time was great. Others didnt have enough sense to be prepared and thus didnt get as much enjoyment out of the trip.

Here is a motto to live by " YOU CAN ALWAYS TAKE IT OFF IF YOU WORE IT BUT YOU CAN'T PUT IT ON IF YOU DIDN'T BRING IT".
ADVISE: take a Dramamine the night before and again the morning of, also limit your food consumption while on the boat.
I have a rubber waterproof boat bag that contains my rain suit a light weight warm up suit a personal self inflating flotation device as well as other comfort items, it goes with me on every fishing trip.

Glad you had a great time! I know what you mean about setting the rods. The first time I went with featherduster he tried to tell me how to do it. You just have to jump in and do it to understand the process.
