Any recommendations for a good locator call?
I picked up a primos power owl last year. It made good sound but way too quiet. I’m looking for something nice and loud to locate birds. Thanks in advance!

It all depends on the turkeys mood for that day. I think the loudest locator call I’ve owned was one that imitates a pileated woodpecker. Crow calls can cover some distance too.

Truck door slamming...😉
Seriously - I have a ton of crows around my place and the turkeys don’t pay them any never mind. A goose call works....sometimes.

I've had a crow call for quite a few years and the turkeys don't seen to respond to it like they used to. I think it is because the areas I hunt now have more crows than the areas I used to hunt.

I see some guys on the internet that use a Harrison Hoot'n Stick with good results. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHs9u-O-0n4I have a crow call that works pretty well too, but you can't just blow it to make a crow sound. You really need to blast several notes to get them to shock gobble.

I have never had luck with any locator calls. I've tried owl hoots, crow calls, etc. I've seen guys have success using them, but I personally never have had success with them.

What about a "horn in a can"?
Or just about 45 min before sunrise yelling loudly "Hey Turkeys, where are you?"

I have used crow calls, goose calls, owl calls, wood pecker calls and a gobbler call, they have all worked but not every time and sometimes not the next day. I've used a hawk call as well. It worked when others wouldn't. What makes them go off one day doesn't the next is beyond me. I have heard them go off at the sound of thunder even.

The absolute best locator call in the world is the H.S. STRUT palmer's hoot tube

For Owl calls I have had good luck with the Primos ?? that is about 4" long with 2 holes in it. You can blow it with no, one, two holes covered and depending on the day any make work. I talk to the owls across the road regular at a distance or 1/4 mile or so. I have called in Barred Owls and Great Horned respond to it.
I tried my voice but I sound like Gomer Pyle.
