Heading out this morning to replace the ghillie cover on my redneck blind. I gotta admit, I am pretty disappointed. The material around the door zipper dry rotted and tore along the seams. This left the entire door useless. I had to use some gear ties during deer season to somewhat close the opening. It's only a couple years old. Not sure why this happened. I did take the ghillie cover off the frame after it's first turkey season and stored it in a large garbage can. I figured that'd be best to keep it from getting torn up by mice and baking in the sun. Well, when I pulled it out it was moldy and stinky. I'm assuming moisture must of been trapped between the layers. I decided then that I wasn't taking it off anymore. So idk if that was the cause of the material by the zippers to rot or if it was just a bad design. Either way, redneck took real good care of me on getting a replacement ghillie cover. Since it was JUST out of warranty, they gave me a bigger break in the replacement cost than I really could have hoped for.
I think I'll purchase a large tarp and wrap the blind in the in between turkey and deer season and then again after deer season. Any thoughts or concerns on that, please feel free to opine.
So, once I get the new cover on the redneck blind, I think I'll relocate it. I was wanting to set it up near the pond but, the land owner is doing so much work out there that I'm afraid that'll be a wasted spot. Truth is, I don't plan on sitting in it too often, I just want to be able to get out of the rain if need be.
I decided earlier that I don't think I wanted to run trail cams before turkey season. I thought it might be fun to go into season blind this year. However, with some new developments in life, my career path may be changing sooner than I had thought and I may not have any vacation time for this turkey season. So, I may take a couple out there with me just in case I change my mind. Besides, just because I set them out, doesn't mean I have to check them. However, if a new career is in my future and I lose my vacation time, there's no point in making things more difficult and I'll at least be able to get some sort of idea where the birds are or aren't located.

Good luck!!! Switching jobs or careers is always easier or better when you WANT to than when you HAVE to. I am sitting on the fence myself... would be hard to swallow losing 5 weeks vacation, a week sick time, good pay, and two decades of service. But the stress, pressure, anxiety, and my health are taking their toll. No room to advance and no desk job possible in the future as well. Decisions...
As for the turkeys, I say take every advantage you can! Even if it was easy and they walked right by, you dont have to shoot the first one. You could inventory a time or two, but have great satisfaction knowing you could have taken one. No right right or wrong answer.

Good luck on the career thing. I'm in the same situation as far as weeks of vacation, 5 weeks is hard to give up even if I do have to rotate shifts. My line is supposed to go down to one crew in June so I won't have to rotate when that happens and i can stay in days just gotta hope the denand for our product doesn't increase or decrease for a while, I'd be real happy if it stayed that way for 20 years or so 😁, but if I've learned anything where i work is if you hate the situation you're in hang in there it will change, if you like the situation you're in don't get too comfortable because it's going to change!
As far as the blind I hear you on the dry rot but I wouldn't leave it out there. Rven if you tarp it you'll probably have mice and you may be dealing with yellow jackets or wasps I'd try to bring it in and hang it for a week in the garage then find a way to store it. Just my .02, good luck!

I was vested 5 years ago with my retirement at the sheriff's department. I'm not getting any younger. Years of ground fighting and actual fighting are definitely catching up to me. I've been in more scuffels so far this year than all of last year. 2 weeks ago I was in a vehicle pursuit that ended in a foot pursuit and then a fight. Of course, he gets to have the advantage of methamphetamine and fentanyl on board to help him😂 (still lost and went to jail though). After that, I had really made my mind up that it's my time. Especially since they're trying to take away our qualified immunity.
Back to the subject at hand, I did out out a couple cameras too. I figured why not?! It's still fun checking then and gives me another reason to visit the woods. Blind is all redone and relocated. I installed the new see-thru mesh windows too.

Try this next time someone runs. Open the back door, unhook the leash, and say whatever get em means in czech. Leasurly walk over to said perp as he's being chewed on and say, how'd that work out for you. That or you can buy taser cartridges by the case.

Hopefully this second blind cover lasts a bit longer than your first one. Most of all, thank you for what you do on a daily basis. I have family that are police and you all have my upmost respect.

Genesis, thank you for your dedication. I sure couldn't do it.
As for the blind, the sun beats the snot out of them, and wrapping it in a tarp won't do much good, they need to be dry and the fabric will suck up moisture from the ground and you will have mold. PITA I know, but take it down when not in use, especially with Turkeys, they don't care. Not like deer do.

It's definitely a PITA. There's a ton of velcro straps holding the blind to the metal frame plus the bungee straps on the bottom. But, I suppose it really is for the best. Especially if I want to prolong the life of it.

Post some pics of the bkind please Here's some pictures. I cut a little pathway behind the blind leading to the ladder to climb onto the hay wagon. I'll rake the pathway a few days before season for a stealthier approach. A picture of the inside and a couple of the windows.

I started to leave the Ghillie blind cover right on throughout the whole season. At first I threw a tarp over them but notice they got kind of musty. I kind of come to figure that it wasn’t worth the effort and it’s kind of like a grill that you put a cover over meaning that moisture just sits there trapped. Periodically I will open the windows to allow airflow throughout the whole blind. Seems to work good so far.
