Fished for about 5 hours, and only got 3 smallmouth and a bluegill. Not even a rock bass, and very few hits. Hmmmm. Suspect reasons are extremely dirty water with weeds and sticks everywhere from the recent 6+ inches of rain a couple weeks ago. Thought for sure it would have cleared up more by now. Oh well. Still as I remember, water mostly shallow and flowing fast with lots of snags! Will try it again in a few weeks if it clears up some. Successful angler and another prized smallie. Beautiful stretch with very few homes. On a cool note, saw a bald eagle soaring around us. They nest in the park and there is a camera set up to watch them do their thing. Also had a hawk land by us and screech away talking. He eventually turned his back to us in disgust when Luke caught his fish. Lol. Lastly, pulled in the driveway at home and blew a brake line! I have had one crusty one and just knew its days were numbered. Kinda glad it finally let go, as I want to replace all of them now to start fresh. You and Luke are sure having some good adventures on the water this summer!

Packed up and ready to. I just have to finish packing the cooler then I'm off to Bruce Lake. I'll be there just after sunrise or maybe a few minutes before.

Today was good in the fact that I got to put my boat in public waters for the first time, enjoyed the area and time spent with a friend.
That being said, we caught no fish! We were on the water at 6am and fished until 5pm. Nothing! We fished top, medium and bottom. We threw everything we had at them. At one point, for a couple hours, we worked deep spot along with two other fishing boats. We were all marking fish but not one of us caught anything at that spot.
The edges were really weedy too. The only fish I put a hook in got off before I could land him. I caught him in some lilly pads (weedless frog) but, he managed to get free as I was fighting to get him through the weeds.
I think maybe in the spring or fall it'll be better over there.
I also discovered that my musky rod is not fit for musky. It's a medium 7' rod and after about a dozen cast with those chunky musky lures, I knew for certain. So, I definitely need to get me a heavy duty rod.
People were friendly there from the other boaters to the residents on the banks that waved and wished us luck.
I look forward to going again sometime.

If you gave it your best shot, you can walk away proud! Apparently the fish weren't biting, so there is nothing you could do. Leave it at that, because it is what is is. We have ALL been there, MANY times!
Hoping your next outing is more eventful.

First keeper on the "new" 1977 Ranger. Abbie loves fishing from the boat!

We still enjoyed ourselves and we're already plotting our revenge for the return trip

Judging by the color of their eyes I would guess those fish came from somewhere near Marshall County, Indiana.

Fishing Friday was another good one. Pulled cranks on Monroe.
Hookup rate was much better. Landed close to 30 crappie a yellow bass and baby wiper. Missed maybe 6. 1 big fish hit smallest bait and hooks pulled out.
1st hour all fish hit a jointed flicker shad. 2nd hr all fish hit a small Rebel Deep R 3rd hr it was a mix. Goes to show you need different lures out there.

We always trolled Bandit 200 series cranks, but had a ton of different colors. Every once in a while would tie on a 300 series, but stuck to mostly 200 all season long. duffIf you haven’t tried the wiper bite in the evening you should. We always had luck on a big hump just to the east of four winds. Sure is a blast to hook six at one time.

Have had a couple jump right in front of us. A DNR lady did a survey on us, and said some were caught on the pier a few hours ago.

I hammered the ditch pickles on Crane today. Wanted to try and get big crappie trolling but they don't have shad there like Monroe so my strategy was not working. Weeds make trolling tricky.
Headed to some deep structure and found fish busting fry on the surface. Tossed a small crank and got hammered as it hit the water. 12 inch bass sucked the bait in. Ended up putting a tiny torpedo on and chasing the school. Ended up with 10 in a bit over an hour all 12 to 14 inches. Was most fun bass fishing I have had in a long time. Top water bite in 40 feet of water is unexpected.

Come fish in Trail Creek in Michigan City he said. They are catching salmon he said, it will be fun! It was fun, but I only caught a boat that ran over the line and cut me off. I'm glad I went, and will go again. I hope he and Luke have better luck tomorrow.
At least I had time to organize some of the fishing tackle, and will be better organized the next time!
