Ive never really gotten into it because most public lands are a draw, those that arent do not hold many birds. This year were planning to go back up to HNF where we deer hunted, seen a lot of birds the last couple years.

I've never had trouble finding birds on HNF, although I think I'm further north than you are going. They do seem very call shy though, and I've never killed one there. I am an absolutely terrible turkey hunter though.

What made you settle on #9? Using an Indian Creek tube. Heard them talking about allowing #9, so just tried a box since I found it on clearance cheap. Only fired one shell, so still got more if they do pass it. Yes on other size TSS shot. I am using the Win Longbeard xr's #6. They shoot plenty good enough for the price tho. I had Bullseye69 thread my smooth bore slug barrel for a choke tube. It's awesome having adjustable iron sights, short for convenience, and lighter with no rib. Very happy with the outcome.

I'm working on either getting a barrel for my 3" 1100 or a whole 'nother 3" 1100. I'd love to get a SBE3, but with the $$$$ I spent on gunpowder and reloading components lately, that ain't gonna happen.
I suppose I should be looking at some TSS shells NOW, before getting closer to turkey season when they would be even harder to find and even more expensive.

Esshup yes you should. The 3 I posted above will be sold out by first of Feb. If you ever want to reload TSS the guy I buy my shot from will give his recipe for his shells if you buy from him. He actually opened his own shell company and is one above. TSSSHOT. I got 10 lbs from him in June.

Anyone know how the weight of a #9 TSS pellet compares to normal lead pellets? I believe I read that, velocity being equal, a TSS #9 pellet hits as hard as a #4 Lead pellet. Is that true? If so, in a 2 oz. load, you get 270 #4 lead pellets or 766 TSS #9 pellets. That's a dramatic difference, almost 3 times as many TSS pellets in the air versus lead.

I sure with Apex would put more information on their website. Knowing the FPS sure would be nice!
TSS #9 362 per ounce. Lead #8 = 399 Lead #7.5 = 338
As to "hit as hard" that is all relative to many variables. More surface area in larger shot size means that they slow down faster when going through feathers or bone/meat if they had the same weight per pellet as the smaller pellets.
Another variable is the mv fps, and how fast the pellets slow down going through the air. More smaller pellets will increase the chance of getting a hit in the CNS of a bird, where pellet size really doesn't matter.
When we were shooting clay birds playing the games, I realized that there had to be a certain amount of energy transferred to the clay bird for it to break. We were shooting clay birds a LONG ways away with #7, through #4 shot. In walking the drop zone for the birds, we found no whole birds with more than 4 holes in them, but that was very few. We found many more birds with 3, 2 and 1 hole or chip out of the rim, the less hits, the more birds we found.
Also faster fps (unless the shot was buffered) the faster the shot seemed to spread out from the pattern. Copper plated lead shot held a tighter pattern than plain lead shot even if both were buffered. (same size pellets, same distance, same fps)

esshup scroll down to the shells on that page and it has the fps listed. I'll go look. I called them and they said 1200 fps and 1190 fps. Thanks. The website says 1200 fps for both. I was told the 2 3/4" was 1190. Basically the same fps, you will have more than 10fps variance between shot to shot.

Foxtrot is made right here in Argos, IN Heck, I could drive there and pick it up! I shoot regularly at Back Forty Sporting Clays in Bourbon, IN., plus Plymouth is only 10-15 minutes from here, depending if I get stopped at the 2 lights on US 30. I'm just North of US 30, 1/2 mile away from State Route 23.
