With the end of the 2020/21 deer season looming, and it`s technically already over for me, it`s time to think about, and even begin preparation for the 2021 Indiana spring turkey season.
I ordered a new scope for my Browning BPS 12 guage, it`s the Truglo camo Gobble-Stopper scope. I also ordered an Aimtech shotgun saddle, although Optics Planet was supposed to ship it to me back in September of 2020, but the date keeps getting pushed out. I don`t even know if it will be in my hands in time to get the scope mounted and zeroed in time for this springs season.
I also bought and installed a new Carlson`s turkey choke in the BPS. If I can get it, I want to then pattern this choke with Federal 3rd Degree turkey loads, but if not, I`ll pattern it with the Winchester Xtended Range Hi-Density loads I have, I still have more than 30 rounds of those left, but I believe the 3rd degree would probably be better loads.
I also have an AvianX hen decoy that no longer holds air, I need to try to determine where she`s leaking and see if it can be fixed. I cannot afford new decoys, so if I can`t fix her I`ll just do without. There may be YouTube videos I can watch to learn how to check for the source of the air leak.
Then finally, I`ll need to get calls out and condition them and practice. Make sure strikers are as they should be, and sound sweet on the surface of the pot calls. Maybe practice enough and finally learn how to use a diaphragm call.
It`s kind of amazing how much goes into killing a turkey, what with all the equipment, preparation, practice and planning.
What will you all do to get ready for this springs turkey season? I`d love to hear about it, and potentially, there`s something for everyone to learn by hearing about your prep.

Check for leak like a tire, either spray with soapy Water or submerge it in Water. It will bubble where the leak is.

Should be going on my first ever out of state hunt. Will be chasing turkeys in Florida at the end of March. Pretty excited about that.

If you can't "fix" the leak, fill it with spray foam. Just use way less than you think it'll take.

Starting today you can apply for draw hunts. Put mine in this morning. I thought in years past you could apply for dnr ground and the private property grounds but this year it’s one or the other

I'm going to find a barrel for my 3" 1100 and turn it into a turkey barrel, then put a red dot on the gun. I already have a red dot sitting on the shelf here.

It`s making me crazy there aren`t more options for mounting a scope on my Browning BPS. And how is it that Aimtech can`t get a stinkin` saddle mount to Optics Planet? Sheesh...

I couldn't find a way either for the 1100. But having a friend with a TIG welder fixed that problem. I made a base out of steel (had access to a milling machine) and he used the TIG welder to attach it to the receiver. The barrel will be relatively easy to cut off and add screw in chokes - I need to find one without a rib is all. Then get it dipped or Duracoat/Durabake the barrel and receiver.

My Avian X had a leak and it was around the tube/body that the stake is inserted in.
I just used some epoxy and coated all around the tube where it attaches to the body. It hasnt leaked since.
Using spray foam really adds weight to the decoy.

Woody you still use your stuffer? I never had one. I have used my son's (Woodmaster) stuffer decoy numerous times. I'm old, retired and on fixed income. I do have an Avian X 1/4 Strut Jake and an Avian X feeding hen. They pull in the gobblers pretty good, although not as good as the stuffer. How many gobblers have you killed off of yours?

Using spray foam really adds weight to the decoy. Thanks for that info, depending on where this thing is leaking from, the epoxy may be just the ticket. So, is putting air into it and submerging in a bathtub the ticket, or just mix soapy water in a spray bottle and spray it down the way to go?

You will need a lot less pressure on it for the soapy water... Imagine blowing up a balloon to the size of the decoy, then trying to push it under the water. How much push do you think you'll need to get it under water? Or maybe just push it partly under the water and rotate it so you can see the whole surface a little bit at a time that is under the surface of the water? Whatever is easier for you would be my guess, as I'm a lazy person.

From posting on FB it was determined tat the tube to the body is a known weak point. I just smeared the epoxy around the opening of the tube/body where it’s attached. After drying I blew it up and it held air. Epoxy is cheap.
