Aldo Andretti stands in for his twin brother Mario (who's face was badly burned in a practice crash) for the front row pictures in 1969. Mario would of course go on to later score his first and only Indy 500 victory. Look at those cars ....

Two things I didn't know stated there about Mario, I didn't know he was injured so badly and I didn't know he only won one 500. Back in the day my family would go over to my uncle's house on Memorial Day to LISTEN to the race. My uncle was a huge fan of the radio brodcast. He would have it on the TV if you wanted to watch but he would encourage anyone go step outside and let the radio announcers paint the picture. His rules were: no playing around during the final laps of the race (probably 10 laps to go) and you HAD to be QUIET so everyone could hear! We'd all be hunched over a transister radio he had on the picnic table. Probably looked like a Norman Rockwell picture only from the 80's! Those were the days oh so we thought, time plays tricks on you.
Rest in peace Aldo.

Am I reading the same article as everyone else? Aldo died on Dec 30, making him one of the last of 2020, not the first of 2021. Mario didn't get hurt...well he did, most notably in the 1992 Indy 500...Aldo got hurt and quit racing because of it.
What the article didn't mention was that they were racing without their parents' knowledge until Aldo got in a serious wreck.
