I have been wanting to get into saddle hunting for 3 years now as I believe it would be nice for the type of hunting that I do. Just haven't yet due to cost/changing system. For next year, I am going to take the plunge into it. I found an awesome review video of 5 of the top saddles for 2020: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHnggPxdEFEWas wondering if anyone on here hunts out of a saddle a lot and if you have any info/advice getting into it. I have climbing sticks. I would just need the saddle system and probably a platform of some type. I am thinking about possibly building my own platform as my family has a metal shop, but we'll see.

I've seen some people just use the top of their climbing sticks or I've even seen on guy that uses 2 of those wild edge steps. Anyway, I'm trying to narrow down what to do for a platform and whether or not a bigger platform is necessary for comfort or if I could get away with a much smaller option. Doesn't really matter, I just want input on how much platform size affects comfort/sitability. Also, what saddle do you have? I am really leaning toward the H2 saddle based on the research that I've done. Right now, I do all hang and hunts with a Muddy stand and hawk helium mini sticks. I frequently go a mile to a mile and a half in to public land with roughly 30 lbs of stand/sticks/equipment on me and am looking for the mobility of the saddle system. I will continue to use the Hawk sticks as I like them a lot but being able to shed the roughly 14 pound stand would be amazing. I will also say that it will be used almost primarily with archery equipment. I haven't taken a gun out in 3 years, so if you have any pertanent info in regards to hunting out of a saddle with archery equipment, that would be valuable.

I wear a size 9-9.5 boot and I can comfortabley stand and turn around on it. In fact recently the wind switched on my and I was too lazy to switch sides on the tree so I just stood on the platform for 4 hours. I have an Aerohunter Kite Saddle. I shed weight about everywhere I could, I have full size helium sticks with a versa button and amsteel mod. Practice shooting your bow from the saddle, the mechanics are the same, bend at the waist and not with your arms, focus on shooting in different scenarios, you dont even have to get more than a foot off the ground with the saddle. Your weak side will now be opposite of what it was with a stand, but there really isnt a week side if you can move without getting caught, you can shoot 360 degrees if you really wanted too, so youll see what I mean by practicing.

Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it! Hoping to get it in spring so that I can get used to it through the summer and going up to Archery. I usually do a few sits before hunting opens just for observation so that will be the perfect time to get used to it before actually hunting out of it.

Has anyone here shot and killed a deer from the saddle? All 4 deer I killed in Indiana this year were out of a saddle. I passed on a doe during bow season wince I was doing a reduction hunt so all 4 were with my muzzleloader.

I use the Aerohunter Flex and a predator platform. Like medic22 said practice out of it way before season. The biggest difference I noticed shooting my bow was that you actually use your legs to help get into position instead of just standing up and it took me some practice to maneuver around the tree smoothly with my bow in hand. The Cruzer XC saddle has the same expansion in the rear that a flex does but the one on the flex doesn't seem to stay closed very well.
