I'm changing up my muzzleloader powder and bullets. I'm switching to loose powder from pellets. In doing so, will I have to get a new breech plug? I couldn't find anything in the manual indicating that I would have to but, I just thought I'd ask.

What muzzleloader are you shooting? Some require it and some don't.

Assuming you're not shooting a smokeless gun, I recommend BH209 without hesitation. I know there are some guns with factory plugs that don't like BH 209 (Knight Disc rifles for example), but most are fine with it. My gun is a Remington (Traditions) Genesis.
If you're shooting a 50 caliber gun, I'd start with 100 grains BH 209 by volume. If you're not happy with the groups, try 90 and/or 110 grains. Use "regular" 209 primers, not the ones made for BP substitutes. I really like BH 209 for it's ease of cleaning and also because it works well with heavy projectiles. I shoot Hornady 350 grain FPBs, which do a number on deer. They're getting hard to find, but I have enough for a few years.

If you do go to BH209 they recommend magnum primers to go with it. I started using regular CCI primers and had quite a few that wouldn’t ignite the powder. Bought 200 CCI magnum primers this year and there’s no hesitation at all. Goes boom every time I pull the trigger. Federal also makes a 209A primer that supposedly works well.

I plan on using BH209 powder with the magnum primers to propel a 250 grain Barnes spit fire T-EZ.

Take your new components to the range and see if it will fire consistently. If it does you have your answer.

What muzzleloader are you shooting? Some require it and some don't. I have a Traditions Pursuit Strikefire Looking online, I didn't see anything about having to have a different breech plug. But I did find this-does your breech plug look like this? Traditions AcceleratorI shoot an original CVA Optima and there were a ton of discussions about how to modify the breech plug and a link to a BH209 replacement plug. I still use the original plug but use 209 Magnum primers and have not had a single hangfire with dozens of shots. If there is still a shortage of magnum primers when you go to make the switch let me know, I have a bunch. I needed more this summer and had to buy a box of 1000.

I switched to BH209 this year (100gr by volume), Barnes T-EZ 250gr, and the Federal 209a primers and I couldn't be happier. I shot 12 times at the range and no cleaning between shots was needed. Accuracy looks good, so I eager to see the "on game" performance.

So does anyone have a lead on some BH209? I can not find it anywhere.
How about the Triple 7 loose powder?

Not having any luck finding any more BH209. Walmarts are either sold out of everything all of a sudden, or have pulled the shelves bare. Even asking a clerk, a lot are clueless. I have noticed something fishy though... when you punch in BH209 on their website, a momentary picture comes up and then gets blocked, stating no item found. No doubt it is being blocked. Hmmm. Will keep eyes peeled for ya Genesis.

Is that where you said you were going?? Find anything there that you couldn't do without?? Yes, and no, nothing came home with me but there was a few things I thought about. They have about the best stock going right now. My boss went to Bass Pro in Portage and said the shelves were bare.
