For starters, most of you know that I am a hunter. My favorite game to pursue is whitetail deer. I'm passionate about it and oftentimes get easily distracted by it. That distraction got me again this morning.
I decided I wanted to try my luck at quail hunting this morning. As soon as I arrived and began walking to the meadow and briar patch I seen some deer. I immediately began watching them and focusing on where they were going. I had to instantly remind myself that I'm quail hunting, not deer hunting. I started making my way through the meadow and kept getting distracted by deer sign. A bed here, a rub here, couple scrapes here. I again reminded myself that I'm quail hunting. As I began my turn around trip through the canary grass, I found some more, fresh buck sign. I begin looking around at it as I'm still walking and FLUSH!!! The very thing I'm pursuing busrt up in front of me and are gone before I even knew what was happening. It happened so fast. So sudden. But, not without warning. You see, I knew there were quail out there. I knew I was actively pursuing them. I knew I was going about the hunt the right way in order to put myself into a position to get my bounty. But, I allowed myself to get distracted and the window of opportunity was closed before I could even realize what happened.
It instantly hit me that this is how this life will end and how suddenly it can. We must stay focused on our task of pursuing God and Heaven. We must constantly remind ourselves of what we are doing here. Because if we allow ourselves to become too distracted by other things. That window WILL close. That door WILL shut. And it WILL be too late.
