If I was in market I would look at the Cutco. I use Buck and Cutco. I have two of the Cutco fixed-blade hunting knives with the hunter orange handles. Cutco will re-sharpen for free too, whereas Buck charges to re-sharpen. You can ship the knives back to Cutco, or, take them to the store on the northwest side of Indianapolis. I`ve always just shipped them back. A really sharp blade is not only safer to use, but it`s a joy to field dress with.

They are top notch like all their knives. Not cheap for any of them but well worth it.

Ive also have cutco knives both kitchen and hunting, Ive sent them back for sharping took weeks to get them back. I just do it myself now. Good knives tho !

So long as they are sharp, you can take a big game animal apart with just about any knife. I totally gutted, skinned, quartered and boned a deer with my little Swiss Army pocket knife on one occasion.

Best knives I have ever owned... All are '50s-'70s vintage carbon steel made in Solingen, Germany. Easy to sharpen to shaving and hold that edge very well. The Edge 443 is such collector's condition that I have never taken it hunting since I got it. Sheath is even spotless. Asking prices on these are getting ridiculous on ebay.

I've worn out a Kabar 1224 field dressing deer. Had to get one from ebay since they don't make them any more.

It would, but it's a PITA to sharpen now too. It's basically retired, sitting in the drawer now. Blade length is around 3" on the new one.
