I planted these in two different spots about 6-7 weeks ago. Surprised they came up this nice. Only about waist to chest high but the bees are loving them.

What variety did you plant and how did you plant them? I have a 1/2 acre to plant in sunflowers for a client next year and need some tips. 6 to 7 weeks and they went from seed to flowers?

These are from rural king bird food section, black oil sunflower bag 40# for $12.99. I disc the ground only about 4 “ and broadcast by hand then used a piece of chain link fence drag to cover. I did this right before rain and did two 1/4 acre sections on my property then did a smaller one at my home. All three did well.

Yes, they grew quick.

I'll take soil samples and send them out to be tested, usually once a year. I'm collecting samples now, I'll have 10-15 to send out next week.

Wow, that looks really good.
I planted some one year, but the deer devoured them when they were about a foot tall. A few made it, but not enough to help for dove season.

I think what helped mine was when I planted. There was plentiful crops and plants growing in August so I believe the deer really didn’t hit it that hard. I did see a couple of deer eating the leaves off grown sunflowers and there are plenty that were eaten while just sprouting up.

They must like you better, but who wouldn't? I do.
