Since I cant seem to find a sight that is green on front and back, I was looking to modify one. I want to get rid of the red on my TC Black Diamond XR and replace it with green, which seems to be more visable at low light. Anyone ever try this? I was thinking of canibalizing one of my old archery pins and using the fiber optic element in the ML sight. Whatcha think?

Can't you buy an aftermarket sight for the Black Diamond? It would be easier, look nicer and probably hold up to recoil better. Just a thought. Good luck with it.

I don't know if this would work. Down the page is a fiber optic repair kit with green and red pieces. I'd contact T/C to find out what diameter the fiber optic is in the front sight you have. If it's .040 like the kit pieces then your good to go, if not contact the company at the link and find out what their front sight F/O diameter is. They sell front sights seperately. rmcsports.com/catalog.htmAnother thing you can try is if your front sight hole on the Black diamond is the same screw size as the rear sight then Knight sells the green front sights. If your front and rear sight holes are different then it won't work. You may need a new screw for this. I hope some of this helps. I wouldn't try modifying a front sight if you don't have the right stuff. You could end up needing a new front sight.

If the ambienet light is too dim to properly illuminate a red FO you probably need to examine whether or not you actually have enough light to take the shot at all . I have FOs on all of my MLs and I don't shoot until they're properly lit up , I'd a whole lot rather pass on a questionable shot than wound an animal by being impatient .

Its not that the ambiant light is too dim, I just think that it is a design flaw of the red front sight. There doesnt seem to be enough fiber optic material to absorb the available light. I have archery pins that have over an inch of material, and have seen sights with much more than that. I have passed on a few deer that were well within legal hours because I was not confident enough with the shot. Having 3 green pins would make me feel much more comfortable and confident.
Thanks for the link Wolfhound. I'll have to get my mic out and see what the pins are.
