Ok, I could use some help here. I was drawn for Big Oaks for the first time. I'm reading through the lengthy notes and I'm getting a little confused.
Bag limit is 2 deer per day. On my two day archery hunt, you can take up to 2 bucks if you have earned the second buck by checking in an antlerless. So that would mean on day 1 if you get lucky enough to take a buck and a doe, on day 2 you would be eligible to take another buck and a doe, right?
Unlike park hunts you do need a license/tag for every deer you take. It looks like a number of different licenses can be used for those deer, though.
So I always buy the combo license, which lets me take up to three deer across all the different seasons, including 1 buck. If I buy a military reserve license, that would mean I could use it on a buck (or if I bought multiple licenses and got crazy lucky, I could use 2 of them on 2 bucks) WITHOUT using the buck tag from my combo license. Is that right?
At the end of the day, I'm unlikely to even get a shot at more than one buck across all my archery hunts combined, so I'm not really making plans for a multi-buck year. But I'm just trying to better understand how this all works and whether my understanding of the reserve licenses is correct - basically it allows an exception to the "one buck rule" by not using your primary buck tag?

You are correct, you can use 2 refuge tags for the bucks, but must check in a doe to get the second buck. So day one you must check in at least one doe for the two bucks to become an option. Also, a doe checked in for archery will not apply to the gun hunt for earn a buck.

Just buy one refuge tag for a buck and use your bundle for does. If you get a buck on the first day then you can buy another to have just in case you get a doe on the second.

In a reduction zone you need to use a reduction zone tag to earn the buck correct? If so is Big Oaks similar? Is there a special refuge antlerless tag that needs to be used before you can take the second buck?

But if you've got a bundle than you can use one of those for an antlerless as well. In order to get a second buck you have to check an antlerless in first

Can you use the bundle on the Military/refuge hunts? You can only use a state lic. If the season of the tag is in... example being they have gun hunt there before the state season comes in state wide.... thus you can only use a military refuge tag then.

I thought that the in or out of season tagging only applied to the buck. I could be wrong I too have a lifetime license, but have sat through the safety briefing for close to the last 20 years.

What licenses are available to me to use during the Big Oaks NWR deer hunt? Archery licenses include: Regular archery, Extra archery, Crossbow, Bonus Antlerless, and Military/Refuge Licenses. Gun licenses include: Regular Gun, Bonus Antlerless, and Military/Refuge Licenses. The Regular Firearm License can only be used during the State Firearm Season (Nov 14- Nov 29 in 2020). The buck tag included in a Bundled License can only be used during the State Archery or Firearm Season (using the appropriate equipment) as well. So you have shown that you do have to have a refuge tag for a buck out of gun season, but can use a bonus antlerless tag for does. Thanks I am sure that will clear up any questions that people have.
