New to forum, brand new to public land hunting. Not sure if this is supposed to be under southern or central Indiana. I’ve only ever hunted on family land, not very much public land where I’m from up in the north east corner of Indiana but I’ve recently moved and am hunting mainly the Morgan Monroe state forest. If anyone has any tips, or precautions, or any useful information on hunting public land it would be greatly appreciated. I am hunting squirrel and likely deer during firearm. Haven’t hunted in about 10 or so years.

Get the best property boundary program you can afford and spend time in the smaller disconnected sections of the properties. Yellowwood State Forest is in that area. It has small sections that butt up to HNF/Lake Monroe property and Brown County State Park. Those sections might be a good place to be during the State Park reduction hunts if you aren't drawn to be in the park.
Oh, hunting during the week come gun season should help with any crowding issues. Also, archery season has much less people.

I don’t have a bow yet, I planned on going out opening day of firearm then during a few weekdays. Mainly interested in small game such as squirrel and rabbit, someone on here had said you’re only allowed to use non toxic load in shotguns on F&W land. Does that mean I can’t shoot lead shot in the previously mentioned forests?

Does that mean I can’t shoot lead shot in the previously mentioned forests? It is property specific. F&W lands are different from forest land. Yes it's confusing, but property rules depend on what department manages the land - forestry, f&w, reservoir.
