About 5 years ago I bought a CVA muzzleload with the #11 percussion caps. When it came time to shoot it wouldn't fire. This was enough for me so, I sold the gun. A few years later I knew that technology was improving, so I bought another gun. This time it was a T/C black diamond xr. It shoots well, but I am ready for something completely weather proof and easy to clean!! I want something easier to care for and a little more modern. Money is not a concern and I am going to weigh all of my options, for I have plenty of time to decide. What guns can you guys suggest besides the omega?

On a designated MZ, I agree.. if I had it to do all over again I would have went with the Savage. I like my Omega, but the Savage reaches out and touches them. For a "combo" gun go with the Encore.

Price? Smokeless powder, being like what rifles use? Prices are from 400.00 for bla/blu to 550.00 or so for stainless/laminated. Yes smokeless powder the same as what rifles use. Its very easy to achieve 2400 - 2500 fps with 250grn bullets. h.h.

That stainless/lam gun has really got my attention now. Its basically a single shot centerfire!

I had a Savage in Stainless and black a couple years back and you can't believe the accuracy you can get with them, I freeked out and sold it when I heard Indiana was going to outlaw them, wish I had it back. Watch www.gunbroker.com for deals!

Add another vote for the Savage. While I wouldn't call it a single shot rifle mine is very accurate(most of the time) and hard hitting. I have the 1st model, slightly used, which I bought on auctionarms.com for less than $200.

Yes no equal. Smokeless is the only way to go if they are legal in your state. I hunt Maryland, legal there, also I hunt Delaware, Not legal there. So in Delaware I use my Knight Master Hunter or one of the several others I have. Hope someday they change the law. Lou

I shoot smokeless in a Savage HB addition and an NEF/SMI custom .50 and both are 1" or better at 100 yards with many bullet powder combinations. It’s much cheaper to shoot, very, very accurate, less recoil, and cleaning once a season has its merits as well.

That stainless/lam gun has really got my attention now. Its basically a single shot centerfire! It’s a great improvement in muzzleloading but still not as simple as a centerfire rifle... If you choose to continue to use 250 to 300 grain bullets and up the fps to around 2000 fps you have a flatter shooting gun that is cheaper per shot and has less recoil. While it has many positives, it’s still a muzzleloader with a sabot that has limitations.

I purchased the Optima Pro this year, and sold my slug gun immediately after shooting it. Its like shooting a cap gun when using 100g.
It has a 29in barrel fiber obtic sights barrel and stock both fully camo'd in Mossy Oak Came with sling Its basicially an exact replica of a T/C Encore
Gun cost me around $300. You won't find a better gun within $200 of that. That is if you find one period!
Good luck with your purchase! Lug
