What is your opinion on the optima pro? I have heard good reports. I have a remminton now and hate it. I would not even sell it to anyone.

Why do you hate your Remington? I was at the range once and this guy next to me had the optima pro. He was swearing and knocking things down because it was so difficult to load! He was cleaning between shots and everything. Why not do it right the "2nd" time and get a T/C. I had a cva as a first muzzleloader and didn't care much for it either.

I had an Optima when they first came out. It shot Powerbelts and Perceision deadcenters real well, no problem loading them. If I remember right the trigger pull was real stiff. Shooting a Kodiak now and love it. My Knight disk just sets in the cabinet.

I got rid of my ml 700 after buying the optima pro. I'm happy with it. Can't beat it for the money.

I have the Optima 209 Mag with the 26" barrel . The Pro has the fluted longer barrel ....I believe its 29" . I've have several muzzleloaders and like many I never was too excited over CVA .....until they came out with this one . CVA has improved over the years to stay competitive and for the money I dont think you will find a better break action style for the money . If you hear reports of hard loading .....I would probably guess the dreaded crud ring of 777 is to blame not the muzzleloader . I had heard that they have come out with some lighter 209 primers (Remington) to help aleviate the problem . I might add ....this problem was not uncommon with all brands not just CVA . I shoot 100 gr of 777 pellets and a 245gr Powerbelt and have had amazing accuracy . The T/C Encore without a doubt is a fine rifle but if your on a budjet the CVA will fit the bill nicely for half the price . You wont regret it . Good Luck!!!!

Wapahiti,
I picked up an Optima 209 Magnum a couple of weekends back and have had a good experience so far with powerbelts and 50gr pyrodex pellets (100gr load).
I agree with jdmiller about the crud ring... I've heard the 777 is worse about that than the pyro, but yes - 2nd shot on gets snug at the bottom and you have to work to make sure the round is all the way down. You can see the ring clearly when you go to clean the gun. Going to try some loose pyro this weekend and see if that makes a difference.

I'd get any model Knight or a T/C. They all shoot good. Buy a 4X Leupold scope for it.
