Not sure if this should go here but it has to do with fish. Just got my wifeys new koi pond home and spent about 8 hours cleaning it with a 4" grinder. Its 10'x6'x2' which is almost 900 gallons. Yes it is SS. I'm going to dig a hole to put it in about 20" deep with 4x4 treated lumber under the edge for it to rest on above ground so the patio blocks aren't against the tank.
Question.....should I line the hole with foam board or just let it sit on the dirt? Pics are not uploading. Will try later.

If clean dirt I see no problem sitting directly on it. Pointy rocks then some padding.

Note: winter time I would put a heater n it. Mine is 4 feet deep and I heat just to keep from hard freeze. I still lose a few. Do not feed if water is below 60. Some say 55.

Our first one is just in the dirt, sand, no rocks and is a plastic tank that is pretty flexible. We have had that one for about 10 yrs and we have 2 pumps running that keep the water moving but if it gets real cold out I plug the heater in. Was just curious if it being SS if a barrier was needed or suggested.

I've had a pond for years. Here are three picture. Note: put a net over to keep the great blue heron eating all of them. Very nice Yes we have ours netted as well. They still try to get at them but those aren't around anymore.😉

It does seem they visit mostly in spring and fall. Now it stays on.

Did the same thing one time. Sitting at the computer one morning and seen a big shadow go by. I didn't hear any planes flying so got up went outside and peeked around the corner. Yep a blue heron was at the pond. Ran over to the pond and he had 3 koi out on the ground. Thank God they were to big for him to eat and I threw them back in.

Have the same problem with my farm pond put out a fake one most pond suppliers sell them or use a coyote decoy sure helps just move them around every few days or they realize there fake

The cops will look under the pond, but they probably won't check under the big pile of dirt you dug out to make a hole for the pond. Not that I've given this much thought.

Some I saw had people standing on them as if to help protect from kids falling in. Wonder how it would do for leaf control.
