Don't make the mistake I did when I first got mine and put to powerfull scope on it. My SIL worked for Gander Mt and got me a nice 4x handgun scope for it at a good price. Just a bit to much for that close range weapon. Hard to find a deer size target at 25 yards and then pick a spot. I went with a red dot with no magnificaton and it works great.
Sounds like they might have made more Hawkeyes then we were thinking being the differants in what you found. I know Mr Knight started serial numbers at 500 on the first MK 85's he made not sure on other models before the takeover.

Shot the Hawkeye this morning, 70grs.Pyro RS and 240 gr. XTP three shots and it was on at 30 yds. Recoil wasn't near as bad as I expected.

That 12 inch barrel hurts you for velocity when using the coarser grained RS. I've been there and done that with mine. I use Triple Seven FFFG because I lose velocity at the muzzle with FFG 777. I'm also using a Full Plastic jacket ignition system on mine so I get better velocity with either but I still suggest you use Pyro P.

Was figuring on running pellets in it? What conversion kit does it take to go to Full plastic jackets? Was planning on converting but couldn't find any data on which one it takes.

It'll be the wolverine conversion for 50 caliber. And you don't want to use pellets either. You'll get less velocity than a loose powder load.

I don't know how many were made. They were made before Knight (Modern Muzzleloading then) was bought out by Pradco. I know of maybe 4 or 5 other than mine. My guess would be a few hundred to maybe 500 or so max. They're pretty spread out. Like I said it took me a few years to find this one. I'd seen them when I didn't have the money but this time I had both opportunity and the funds so I got it. Mine has been converted to the new full plastic Jacket ignition. It's the same kit as the Wolverine/Bighorn. Do you like the 209 conversion?

This is the one I have: www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=00061900603

Anybody ever try the longer rifle style bullets in a BP handgun or would the shorter barrel not stabilize the bullet?
