I have a Savage MARK II BTV and I'm having extractor issues....I think. Or is it the ammo? I'm shooting the Winchester .22LR super suppressed ammo in .45 grain. It rarely ejects the casing and the bolt closes tightly. This morning I ejected a round (manually) and noticed quite a difference in appearance from unloaded rounds. I also pulled the bolt and examined the extractor. It looks fine as far as I can tell. The first pic is the unchambered round vs the chambered and manually pulled round. Thoughts?

Try different ammo.

That's what I think I'm going to try first.

Same thing I was thinking. It wouldn't hurt to scrub the chamber really well and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes the wax on bullets can build up and cause sticky extractions...

I thought the same thing. I've scrubbed it down twice now (only about 100 rounds through it). That's besides the first scrub down before shooting.

Look at the difference in the lead grooves in the two bullets. If you are going to scrub the rifle's chamber make sure you use something that can get the lead out not just the carbon. Trying a different bullet type is what I would do.

I bought some CCI 36 grain rounds. I just put 40 rounds through it with no issues with extraction. Going from 45grain to 36 grain made a bigger difference than I had thought it would. But, it's re-zero'd and ready to roll! Thanks all!

I've frequently had trouble with that "bare lead" type .22 ammo in photos ejecting. They say it is coated but it just doesn't work good in anything but bolt actions and revolvers. The gold or copper colored type coated / plated bullets cycle much better. Clean everything real good, then try different ammo.

I'd use a slightly oversize brush or mop and scrub the chamber.
No issues with lead bullets in my 10/22's or semi auto pistols.
