I have had a couple of Toms walk by the trail cam, and while they lave long beards, their spurs are very short. One has a longer spur on one leg and a nub on the other.
Anybody know why?

Is the ground rocky? There is a subspecies in Mexico whose spurs are short because of the rocky ground wearing them down.

I shot one a few years ago that had one normal spur and one short one. I just assumed he caught it on something or lost it in a fight.
