Slight change of topic, but still in the Nascar vein. I don't understand why they don't run rain tires like Indy or Formula 1. The fans are there, they have hotel rooms and flights to catch after the race or the next day. Do they refund ticket prices if you can't make the race because it was pushed back a day? I doubt it. Just like IndyCar, NASCAR runs road coarses in the rain. IndyCar doesn't run ovals in the rain, and F1 doesn't run any ovals.

This is purely speculation, but I wouldnt be suprised if we find out he is paralyzed. Just kind of what theyre not saying that makes me think this, hopefully im wrong. I'm kind of thinking the same thing along those lines. The fact that they aren't reporting any of his injuries just that he is awake and talking makes me think that it doesnt look good for the future of his racing career. I'm wondering if they aren't waiting to see if whatever is going on will be permanent or something that will go away with time and rehab before making an official statement on the severity of his injuries. Just glad that he is alive at this point!

Best news I have heard in a long time.
I would imagine he might sit out a race or two just to be on the safe side.
Hats off to the safety crews for the fine job of rescuing Newman.

Great to see. He's smiling but looks in a lot of pain. Honestly, no where close to what I expected watching that wreck live.
Hopefully Ryan Blaney and Cory Lajoie have gotten the opportunity to talk to him.

I was under the impression that Indy cars ran the 500 if it was raining but not a monsoon type of rain. I got that impression from getting rain tires from Dale Coyne when we did some exhaust work for his stock block Indy car (I used them on my Camaro for limited street duty, both front and backs fit on the car under the fenders.)

Wow. Never would have figured this.
A true example of engineering saving lifes. A head on collision at 200 mph followed by a direct impact on driver side by another car and a rid upside down. Lots of development in those safety equipment/structures.
Glad he is ok.

I think his buddy Martin Truax got it right. When a reporter asked him about Ryan's amazing recovery, he said "he's got this really big hard head and no neck, so he's pretty hard to hurt". 8^)
