Good crossbow website www.cacciaebalestra.altervista.orgThis is an Italian site so thier English is not all that great, but look past that and the "Dueling Banjos" music.. The information they provide is very good, especially for a novice. Check out in the video section " Apple shoot at 77 yds." The arrows coming into the target are making a whirling sound much like the buzz of a rifle bullet. I wonder if the deer are jumping the string by sight or the sound of the arrow coming in. Interesting that some arrows 'buzzed" and some didn't. Was some vanes and some feathers?

Nice site.
Dueling Banjos. My favorite.
I believe that you are right about the vanes and feathers.
My feathers make a whole more noise than the vanes. They fly better, but are noisier.
