In the state of Wisconsin a Friday night fish fry is more American than apple pie and maybe even the GREEN BAY PACKERS. The wife and I enjoy dining at any small town supper club like those that Wisconsin is known for especially at a Friday night fish fry. But instead of perch folks are now having to eat other fish because there flat out are "NO PERCH". It has effected business and brought doom and gloom to those that enjoy those tasty little fish. This past Friday we ate at one of these supper clubs in Two Rivers, Wisconsin and their business is off by probably 50%. If they can get a small shipment in the word goes out like wild fire and the old timers are lined up at the door at opening. My good friend Matthew Meyer is a monster moonshine muskie fisherman. Makes a good living fishing muskies everywhere. I just was with him two weekend ago and he says the muskie fishing is unbelievable good. A lot of big ones. He is also a good hunter. Why are they importing Zander??? Later this week I'll be stocking Yellow Perch in ponds. There's still a demand for them, but mine are live, not frozen.
Bell Aquaculture used to raise/cut up/sell a LOT of Perch. Mis-management put them out of business.

Correct. A majority of the guys posting in that link have no clue. Yellow Perch is Perca flavescens, Walleye is Sander vitreus, Whitefish is Coregonus clupeaformis and Zander is Sander lucioperca. If they were all the same fish, they'd all have the same scientific name. Zander is the closest fish of those that I listed to the North American Walleye.
I've had a Friday night "Walleye" fish dinner that was oily and had no skin on it. While the no skin isn't a dead give away, the fish being oily was. I didn't question it, I just never went back there to eat.

Man...I did 2 summers collect lake perch for research out of Michigan City. The commercial seasons had just been closed the year I started. Let me tell you, my fillet knife got a workout those 2 years.
Fried perch Poached perch Baked perch Perch scampi Perch spaghetti Perch pizza Breakfast perch Lunch perch Dinner perch
Couple yrs later the professor retired and the new one made them throw all the fish in the trash....some people!

I am not sure it works that way but I agree that the PC invasion hit him to point he was afraid someone would say bad things. The old professor would have told them to kiss his bass! He was a great guy.
