Text for the Day -- John 7:37-39 ---------- On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, “Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.” ’ Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Devotional ---------- Jesus used the image of water to describe how he satisfies the spiritual thirst of people. This image recalls the conversation he had with the Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus clearly satisfied her thirst for God, as well as satisfying the people of her village who came to see him. They rejoiced in him as Messiah and were renewed in their faith in God's promises. God had not forgotten them. Faith in Jesus fills the empty spaces in us that are lacking spiritual nourishment.
Prayer ----------- Let your Living water fill my soul, O Lord, and help me release that flow of faith to others. Amen
