Was walking the dogs last night and heard the coyotes really sounding off so now on top of bow opener im also fired up for coyote season. Picked up a nv scope last year but didn't get a chance to use it much till the end of season. So who else is with me and is ready to put some coyotes in the dirt?

My son and I are big on predator dispatching. I always carry an arrow w/mechanical BH just for yotes while deer hunting. Have taken several this way. Still enjoy calling them in to exercise the ol' AR too. Edit- AR stands for air rifle. Forgot the "boating accident".

I use AR for Coyotes myself. I have all the gear but have to buy all new camo as I outgrew the stuff that I bought new about two years ago due to health problems that keep me laid up in the house too much. My PSA levels are now down to below detectable levels and I'm waiting for my body to get over the hormone shots and get stronger so I can get out and move around more.

I enjoy air rifles myself but dont have anything capable of taking down a coyote. I have an airforce 25 caliber and it's a cool lil airgun and a great squirrel thumper. Hoping for better health for you moose1am

darinfry, my remark of AR=air rifle was in jest-hence the reference to "boating accident". They are actually AR's. AR's are the only thing I use for hunting them. My son uses them as well a shotgun. Sorry for any confusion.

The guy who added on to my house is a die hard coyote hunter. He is sponsored in part by leupold. Had a night vision scope, thermal scope and he always had a long gun in his truck.
Funny thing was when he and his co-worker were adding on the house his co-worker was complaining that his dewalt wasn't working right and threatened to shoot it. About 3 minutes later I hear a gun shot outside. I started laughing thinking he shot his dewalt. Then seen the other guy laying prone in the driveway shooting out into a field trying to get a coyote about 400 yards away.
I guess whenever you get the itch, you have to scratch it.

Tomorrow is a holiday for me. Kids have to go to school and wife has to work. I'm going to give it a go and see if I can call in a coyote or two.
Most of my spots are 100% timber, so we'll see how it goes.

Well, I got some to howl and carry on probably 1/2 mile away, couldn't tempt them in though.
Wound up doing more scouting for deer than hunting. Was a nice day to be outside, as long as I was moving.

I enjoy coyote hunting but only get out a couple times a year to strictly pursue coyotes. I take a shot at them anytime I'm hunting turkey or deer too. I am going out Thursday afternoon and I will be taking my FoxPro. What advice do you all have for the calls I should start with? Barking? Locate howl? Etc. And how long do I run it? Thanks in advance. All input will be welcomed because these guys gotta go!

I think my first set-up will be in these evergreens (providing the winds right) with the call about 75-100 yards out front.

I much prefer coyote hunting during the day. Its cheaper. Still havent been out this year. Why is it cheaper to hunt them during the day? The guys that I know that hunt them during day spend hundreds of dollars in fuel for their vehicles each season pursuing them. They get teams of guys in vehicles cruising the countryside waiting for one to appear. Once a yote makes an appearance the person that located it gets on his 2 way radio and informs all the other guys where the yote is at and they all quickly put a gameplan together to pursue it. Sometimes these yotes can get chased for miles before getting shot or "holing up".

I picked up a Sightmark Wraith a couple of weeks ago and tried it out Sunday night. I walked around stopping to scan every so often. I picked up a pair at around 200 yards and due to the frozen and crunchy conditions decided to shoot from there. I hit one but was unable to recover it. I don't think they had a clue I was around and if they did they didn't seem to mind. I think I'm hooked on night hunting, it was really cool to just see them walking around totally relaxed.
