I'm not old enough to remember maybe someone can help me out. When compound bows started out were they met with the same opposition as the crossbow? I make and shoot longbows I also shoot a compound and a crossbow. I can see advantages to each and draw backs as well. I just don't see what all the fuss is about. So if you can answer this for me post up. Thanks. Tony Withrow

Almost as much discord against compounds as for xbows today. I was a trad and recurve shooter from 1964 and was convinced compounds were the devils tools. We were told you could hold the string back for half an hour waiting for the deer, accuracy was a no brainer and you could learn to shoot a compound in an hour. They were going to be thousands of new hunters that would decimate the deer herds and we would be lucky to have a hunting season in five years.

I wonder how many of the anti x-bow guys were the same guys shooting the devils tools back then.

Tom Jennings and Pete Shepley lobbied the legislators and DNRs to classify compound bows as a legal archery equipment. Heck.. I remember when you were an outcast IF you put a sight on your recurve.. We are our own worst enemy..

I don't have a problem with any of the bows or crossbows. Right now I shoot a Crossbow and I'm gonna switch to a Compound bow. I see advantage and disadvantages to all of them. But honesty you can kill just as many animals with either type of bow.

I am not sure if this is the right place for this:
But I can tell you, I seen this first hand Saturday. To allow unrestricted crossbow use on fall turkeys, and not allow them for deer, during the same time period is just insane.
We ran into two fellas Saturday afternoon that were admireing their harvested doe before loading it onto their S.U.V. They had most of their gear spread out and sitting around. I noticed one tricked out compound bow and a crossbow sitting on the hood of their Blazer. In the chit chat I asked wich one had the crossbow permit.....they both got Sh!t eating grins and said, NEITHER.......I was deer hunting and he was turkey hunting. BOTH quivers were missing arrows (or at least had empty spots)....and the deer had a broadhead wound.
I think you have your head burried in the sand if you think the current set up is enforcable!!!!!!

The powers that be have to know this. I love to see history repeat it's self and I think it's about to. I ran into a guy hunting last week and x-bows came up, he says he doesn't think they should be legal because they give an unfair advantage, he also said he only hunts bucks and he will only kill one bigger than the last one he killed. Man, he sure is ethicial. Two days later I came across his treestand and 20 yards away he has bait out. That's not an unfair advantage is it? I'm wondering who the x-bow gives an advantage over, the other hunter or the deer.
