biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051004/phtu038.html?.v=27BOARD MOVES TO ALLOW TURKEY HUNTERS TO USE CROSSBOWS The Board of Game Commissioners gave preliminary approval to a proposal to allow turkey hunters to use crossbows. Currently, crossbows may be used to hunt bear, elk, during any statewide firearms deer season and during any established deer season in Wildlife Management Units 2B, 5C and 5D. If approved in January, crossbows would be legal to use as early as the 2006 spring gobbler season. The Board also gave preliminary approval to a slate of 2006-07 turkey seasons, including: a one-bird fall turkey season that varies depending on WMU; a two-bird statewide spring gobbler season; and a one-day youth only spring gobbler season.

Yep!
It's been a slow process, but crossbows and the folks who use them are making progress in just about EVERY state in the union.
This is NOT new news....but what is being discovered is "it's just another fine hunting tool".
Several states have expanded crossbow opportunities over the past few years.....And the results have been OVERWHELMING positive.

cambygsp, this is something that happened here in Virginia that I thought would never happen. Up until this year crossbows were almost taboo. The only way (up until now) that you could use a crossbow was with a doctor's note saying you couldn't draw a regular bow due to some-sort of injury. Now you only have to buy a special crossbow license and can use it in any season you wish. I'm not sure if you can use the xbow in muzzleloader season or not but you can in regular gun season if you have a mind to. Personally I wouldn't trade my crossbow for a dozen regular bows. They may not shoot any farther/flatter but they are a killing machine with a lot "user friendly" options than the "bent stick". I think the biggest advantage is not having to hold at full draw on a deer which has "hung up" behind a tree or something. The other advantage is no anchor point which you can "mess up" in the excitement of the presence of game. Say what you will about the crossbow but in my opinion they are more like a gun which has a limit of around 40 yards. ;D

Same thing applies to ALOT of the newest archery technology out there. Except some of it has bigger limits like 60-80 yards.
Have you seen that new "Switchback" thing?
