What I thought. He dives right into the pond. Like a bomb going off.

nfalls116 is correct, it's an Osprey. The black bands at the wing joints is a sure indicator.

Without knowing for sure, I was going to be a smart ass and say a Kingfisher.
Where do you live that you have Osprey in your midst?

I've seen one at my pond a few weeks ago and in the Fall. I'm 12 miles West of Plymouth, Indiana

Big rascals aren't they?
Saw an immature one once while I was in my canoe on Salt Creek upstream from Monroe Res. Don't recall the exact date, but it was probably around September, as I was usually there either to bowhunt or scout for bowhunting. The one I saw stayed on the limb overhanging the creek as I approached, so I took my time and watched though the binoculars for a really close look as I passed under him. Breast area was a bit more speckled, IIRC, and his feet seemed really large for the rest of the body, but he was clearly not an eagle and was bigger than anything else that looked similar, so my guess at the time was osprey, and I looked them up to be sure. Another of the many times I regretted not carrying a camera.

Just like bald eagles, they are pretty much everywhere now. There is a pair that fish the detention ponds in the industrial park at the Greenwood exit of 65.
