I've got several bucks hanging around. Hopefully a few stay through the fall. I posted this buck a while back. I had a more recent short video that looked like he'd added some growth, but couldn't get a clear still shot. This is just a nice clean 10 point I've gotten a few pics and distant videos of. I think this is a pretty young buck, hopefully he'll live another year or two. Will be fun to watch. This is a long-beamed, short-tined 10 point. I found one of his sheds turkey hunting this spring. The shed was pretty good sized, so my best guess is that this buck is 4+ years old. Pretty nice 9 point. I know a lot of these bucks will move on in a month or two, but still fun to get these summer shots.

Im hoping to get some good pics on this next card pull. It seems I lost track of most of the bucks over the summer. I still know where they want to be in the fall, but it makes for a guessing game on which bucks are around.

Had bow string and cable replaced. Broke it in on a couple of 3D shoots. Also got out and hung my tree saddle at hunting height and took multiple shots with bow at different angles. Found some milk weed pods (free wind indicators) last week at 3d shoot. Will do some scouting and milkweed picking up until season.

Just tilled and spread seed for my little plot today. Hoping the weather people are right and we get the rain this week they are calling for. Planted last year and it just ended up dying, so hoping for better results this time. About time to pull the card down behind the house again too.

I've got 5 sets of stands hung now.. One single and the rest doubles for when the kids come along. Two quad pods, a single ladder with a hang-on alongside, a double ladder, and then the single ladder at a spot I'll hunt alone.
I still have another double ladder to put up, I scouted a tree for it tonight. Will probably wait until it's cooled off again to put it out there. Between those spots and my climber I should be able to hunt the property pretty well. A few more double ladders would be nice though.
My goal is to have several options for any given wind direction. I'll mostly be hunting near the edges of the property and accessing around the perimeter. I'm sure some stand locations will need to be tweaked a bit after hunting a season or two.

This weekend I put up two stands, so 3 of 4 are up. I might redo one stand. I prefer to rotate it about 35-40 degrees. I'll need to take it down, move ladder and replace stand. I'll wait for cooler rainy weather day or just keep as is. The issue is it's in a big cedar tree with lots of branches.

I've made the switch to heavy arrows, which took a while to nail down. Now trying to settle on new broadheads. Also looking to switch to Blackhorn powder in my muzzleloader, which will require some time investment. Got cameras set up at my new hunting lease and have checked them once. No monsters, but some young bucks. I'm starting to learn the property...definitely hoping for a productive first season. Registered for my reserve hunt drawings. Lots to do before the season!
Did a fair amount of practicing with climbing sticks and a saddle a few months ago, but need to do that again before the season starts.

I got the last double ladder stand hung up today. It's pretty close to the house, but in a 50-ish yard wide brushy corridor between the house/yard up the hill and the road/creek down below. Deer wanting to move between the bedding down by the creek and bedding in front of the house, or to the neighbor's cornfield must either take this hillside or do a big loop around the other side of the house and driveway to get there. It should be perfect for a south or southwest wind.
I also cleaned up a bench on the other end of the property that I hung a stand and camera on a few weeks back. There were a lot of downed limbs and logs littering the bench, which looks to be an old logging road. I noticed deer having to pick their way through the mess in the trail cam videos. Hopefully by clearing their path, it'll bring them right past the stand I put up when they cruise through.

I'm thinking there is going to be a lot a late season prep. So many distractions this year!!! Time flying by even faster.

I switched from 250 to 350's on my arrow set up. Re-zero'd my bow yesterday with just one quick adjustment. My first set at 40 yards looked decent, one flyer. I think the earth must have rotated at the shot.🤪 I hit the woods at 6am today and stayed out until 10. I got a new set hung and did some trimming. I got my redneck blind resettled on my haywagon and installed the insulated/padded floor. Hung two more cameras and checked the 4 I had out already. No big bucks. Only one fawn.

I cleared all the fallen trees from our trails and mowed them again. I still need to pull another tree out of the pond. Seems like I have to all of this after every storm we get thanks to the ash borers. I also put up a ladder stand in the back yard to practice shooting from. I need to make some stands for my 3D targets and decide which biw I'm hunting with this year.

Fall plots are finished have some up 4" already and new plots are getting some lite rain as I type. Time to start getting gear and cloths ready and start slinging arrows.

Found some polyester mossy oak shirts on clearance at walmart for $5 each today. I bought a few. Can't have too many hunting shirts.

This is a new buck that came through two days in a row, along with his 8 point buddy. I think this is a really cool deer, wouldn't score well at all but I've never cared about that. This is on the cruising bench that I cleared off a week or two ago.

The xbow is shooting well, my rifle is good to go and MOST of the work is done.
Like every year, it seems like we make a few "last minute" changes and this year was no exception.
We replaced a shooting house (that was a piece of crap purchased from Menards a few years back) with a new one. We also pulled a shooting house from a piece of property and are in the process of getting it moved to another piece. We purchased a 5 ft tall base for the shooting house and put that together yesterday. We're moving the base and blind into place in the next couple of weekends.
We also are moving one ladder stand, but that isn't going to happen until the soybeans start drying up (at least). We may have to wait until the beans are out to do this, but the stand is light and we're moving it about a 100 yards from where it is.
Are we finished after the above? I'd like to think so, but it always seems like something comes up all the way to the first of October (and sometimes beyond). So I kinda doubt we're finished LOL.
Oh well...getting ready is part of the fun.

Went out today and put up two cams and checked out the stands we have up. Glad I did because one of them had a dead tree that smashed into it. Luckily wasn’t too big and didn’t damage the stand at all. Still have at least one stand to hang and blind to put up, but glad I checked on things today.

I'm going to plant my plots this week. I normally just plant soybeans because I have better luck with them than "traditional" plots mixtures. I'm going to plant cereal rye this time. Anyone have experience with it?

Just put my two SPYPOINT cameras out on Saturday. It’s very exciting getting pictures throughout the day seeing the deer and turkey. I would highly recommend the cellular trail cams.

Woodmaster got a TactaCam Reveal and is well pleased with it. $99 *IF* you can find one. Everybody is sold out. This picture is from Illinois and he says it is the lowest quality setting. .
