I would like to hunt with my son in Wisconsin during the archery season. Does anyone know if Wisconsin honors Indiana Handicapped permits. I am getting a crossbow as I can't pull a regular bow.

I'm guessing that they probably wont. Give them a call and ask. In the meantime here is the Wisconsin Handicapped permit form . dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/cs/apps/2300107.pdfWhen you get your form from the Indiana DNR take that one and the Wisconsin form to your doctor and have him fill them both out. Good luck..

Oh... BTW... If you are 65 or older you can hunt Wisconsin with a crossbow without a permit.

Thanks Woody, So you think that Wisconsin will discriminate against out of state handicapped hunters? Only 58 so have to wait a few more years yet.

Just make sure your doctor signs off that you cant pull a bow back. Do you have you Indiana permit yet? BTW - We'll get back with you on the set up of a crossbow on your other rpost. That might take some thinking and typing..

Yes I have my Indiana permit, and bought the ten point titan crossbow today and ordered an accudraw. I am interested in what kind of gizmos other crossbowyers use to quiet the string and limbs. The crossbows I have shot seem awful loud.

Quiet? - You can take some of the noise out with limb silencers, but it will never be real "quiet". At … www.tenpointcrossbows.com/ look under “accessories” and then “silencers”. They have some string and limb silencers there. The silencer kit came on my TenPoint QX4 so I don’t know how well they work. IOW- I’ve never shot the bow without them on. I don’t find the crossbow to be REAL loud. Of course a deer will hear a whisper, so anything above that wouldn't make much of a difference anyway.. That crossbow going off is the last thing the deer will ever hear. The TenPoint came with a DVD that is very helpful too.

Even wise old bucks at times are goofy expecially during the rut. Jim

Thanks for your help..jh45gun Sorry Woody that is what I meant I should have said it better I know about the disabled part I have a class A permit. I do know that you can use a crossbow if you have a class A permit otherwise you have to apply for a crossbow permit like if you have arm or back problems ect and cannot pull back a regular bow. I will ask them what a out of state person has to do and will post as soon as I find out. Jim

Ok Here is the scoop. They do not recognise out of state permits you have to have a WI one so I would download the form I posted below a Class B permit and check the crossbow box you did not say why you need the permit but the B one is easier to get and it used to be good for a year now it is good for up to 5 years. Have you had physical therapy if so that is a plus and would be better for you if you have. Here is the Link for the Class B permit that is the one I would fill out I think you would have a better chance and there is a check off box for using a crossbow. www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/caer/cs/apps/9400544.pdfNow the lady told me the permit can take 30 to 60 days to get so I would jump on this right now. I will say I did talk to her and she is the one who gave me my permit a nice lady and she said she tries to get them out faster I got mine in about 2 and a half to 3 weeks if I am not mistaken so she said you could send it up to this DNR office if you wanted to. here is the info: You could do the crossbow one too and put a note in the letter to the DNR that you were not sure which one to send and did not want to hold things up so I would go with both but she told me you have a better chance with a class B permit. WI Dept of Resources Superior Office 1401 Tower Ave Superior, WI 54880 Just talked to here again she said for the physical therapy it does not have to be new info or test it can be older. She said fill out both forms and send them if you want. For the class B permit have the doctor check the section C and have the doctor give a explanation why you need to use a crossbow. and then check the crossbow box. For the Crossbow permit only form I think you need to have that signed by a physical therapist and a doctor. I think the Class B may be easier to get so make sure you do that one Jim
