www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/licenses/inlic.htmHunting Permits for Persons with Disabilities The DNR issues permits to individuals with a disability that prevents them from taking wildlife under regular hunting regulations. The DNR may issue a special permit to an individual with a physical impairment resulting from an injury or disease, excluding impairment which is attributable to the normal aging process. Special permits allow those who cannot walk or have serious walking limitations to hunt from a vehicle. On state and federal lands, permit holders must obtain permission in advance from a property manager to gain vehicle access to lands or roads that are otherwise closed to vehicular traffic. Those who have a disability that prevents them from using a regular bow may be issued a permit to use a crossbow. To apply for a hunter with a disability hunting permit, you must complete an application form, and a physician must complete a statement of disability form. Rules governing the use of hunter with a disability permits and application forms are available from the Division of Fish and Wildlife, 402 W. Washington St., Room W273, Indianapolis, IN 46204; (317) 232-4080. To be considered for fall hunting seasons, applications must be received no later than August 1.

You can also apply for a temporary permit, if you expect that your condition may improve with traetment or surgery.
One very BIG mistake that many folks make is that they "assume" that you must be confined to a wheelchair to qualify for any special permit.....nothing can be further from the TRUTH!
I was told this by the lady that process the permits.....
"The IDNR just encourages folks to "HUNT"....if you have a condition that affects your ability to hunt, we encourage you to contact this office"
Further conversation revealed that there is really no certian "list" of conditions that qualify, there are actually many different situations that mat affect ones ability to shoot "regular bows".
An old injury where pins were inserted into the wrist, arm or elbow. Carple tunnel syndrome, arthritist, shoulder problems (very common)...and many many isolated situations could qualify one for a special permit.
You do NOT have to be confined to a wheelchair to qualify!!!!!

Camby, what brand and model crossbow do you have?? PSE Viper Copperhead w/scope 270 fps, loud as a freight train and as heavy as 3 of my old Hoyt compounds. I am not *real* happy with it but I got a very good deal. I didn't want to get too much into it as my crossbow permit is temporary (I have to re-new annually),......... my Dr. thinks I should have surgery.
