Apparently the gubberment is gonna snuff a bunch of deer in Franklin county. Maybe this link will help. I hadn't heard ANYTHING about this before someone posted a photo of a local paper article on FB. Sharpshooters? You'd think that would make the news. whitewaterpub.com/AAAissues/index.php?ww=b1907&s=3

I would have thought it would get more press. I asked a friend involved with the DNR and he hand't heard about it either. The DNR statement is beyond vague. I take it you have details? How many in the sample?

They don’t expect to take very many because the animals won’t be very active....
This is NOT some mass herd reduction. It’s about sampling.
I do agree the DNR needs to release a bulletin on what is happening next with the sampling using sharpshooters.

It’s behind the scenes crap and keeping the public unaware that is/will turn to distrust in the dnr/state. Should have been posted in news and in local paper. Statement saying exactly what is going on not some misguided babble after the fact.

didn't they get a lot of voluntarily tested deer from season? Tons, and--as I understand it--- didn't find a lot. Which is why I suppose the locals have questions. Makes it seem less likely they will reduce the bonus permits as well, which from what I saw hunting near the county line, is needed.

Yeah..the newspaper reporting is definitely "misguided babble"....The DNR dropped the ball on this and need to do better to keep the Tinfoil hats at bay!

didn't they get a lot of voluntarily tested deer from season? Evidently not the amount they wanted for last years season or more sampling wouldn't be needed.....the number posted by the editor is the total from day one 2016 not just last years total amount.

I believe part of the issue is most people simply don't understand the size of the "DNR" and equate everything the DNR does with Conservation Officers.
While the DNR has a full in the bTB issue, I believe it is being driven by the BOAH. I'm guessing their notification system is less obvious because they have a smaller group of people that they deal with on a regular basis.
I do remember from the beginning notifications that the deer sampling was planned for multiple years, and the sample area was reduced each year because of the results from previous samplings. This time the sample area is very restricted compared to year one.
It is/will be unfortunate if a mass extermination is deemed necessary in the area, but it is a small area. People will complain that their hobby has been disrupted, but that is better then this disease spreading through the states cattle industry. That is my complaint about the ground zero farm not being completely depopulated as soon as the positive test results came back. If deer eradication happens, the area can completely recover in 5 years or less.

Yes should have just done it in the beginning BUT in reality a 1.5 perimeter is less than a 1000 acres total if my math is correct, so a pretty small area and article said had landowner's permission to use the sharp shooters.
