I had the privilege of taking disabled Vets from Colorado and Nebraska on a waterfowl hunt the last couple of days outside of Mitchel, NE. The birds were definitely late season and heavily pressured but I got to take my first birds and first ducks ever with Bambi. Friday we were on a little side channel of the Platte and I got the goose and drake from the two real opportunities I had early in the morning. As soon as the ceiling raised the birds did too. Saw plenty of birds but they were cruising high. I didn't help that about a half mile down river were some yahoos shooting at every flock that passed over them.....like a 100 yards up SMDH.
Saturday was VERY foggy to start. We set up on a slough on a different property just for ducks. It was close up and the fog made it hard to even get shots off. By the time we could see them they were on us and as we rose our guns they were high tailing it out of dodge. I managed to get a couple of hens. By about 1000 it cleared up and slowed down. We went for lunch and after eating the weather changed bringing howling winds. Afternoon hunt was called and that was that. Here are some pics.
