The streak has been broken! After 21 straight years of dropping a deer, the ole girl went "smokeless" this season! Try as I might, we just couldn't seal the deal with her this year. As seen in this pic, the only load I have ever used is 100 grains (2 pellets) and the green Hornady XTP, 240 gr, 50 cal sabot. The Nikon Buckmaster scope has never been off since I installed it in 1997. The gun has been flawless for me. She's taken deer within 20 yards and out to 178 yards. This season was plain wacky. After my buddy shot his buck in mid November, we compared notes and to the best of our calculations, we saw a total of 8 deer on a cumulative 12 hunts. By my notes, I have never had such a lean December/January. Of all the crazy things, my success came early with the Wally World, Wicked Ridge crossbow special. Don't take me wrong here! I'm not complaining as I ended up with a great harvest and the freezer is fairly full. I'm very blessed! The best memory of my season was watching my buddy take his first buck, I watched the whole scenario play out through my binoculars! But still, from mid November through this closing weekend, it was like a deer famine or blight came thru the property at Parke County. As for the Encore?! She's still one of my favorite guns. And she'll see action again someday!

That happened to me about 6 yrs ago. All the deer left the area I was hunting. Even when there was snow there were NO tracks. I do not know where the went or why but they left about 2nd week on Nov and did not return till spring. I saw deer during archery but just no good shots then zip rest of season. That was the first time in 30 yrs I did not put meat in the freezer. Deer are funny creatures. Just when we think we got them figured out they throw us a curve ball. They can humble us when we think we know it all. That is why it is HUNTING not harvesting.
I wish you luck next year

Man I feel you. I only saw 2 deer from opening day of gun when I killed my buck until the end of the season. I did get the doe, but it was getting tough to keep getting up and going knowing that I wasn't likely to even see a deer.

My streak usually starts broken. Seems like every time I get a new deer gun I can't make it happen with it the first season that I have it.
