A few buddies and I fished lake Kinkaid in southern Illinois Tuesday and Wednesday. The bite was pretty darned good and average size was nice. Caught 40 on day one and 69 on day two, biggest was just shy of 16", two pounds.

Got out to purposely wet a line today. The majority of my fishing for the past several years has been limited to some entertainment while camping. I caught my first ever white bass (11 or 12 total) and had a really good time. Right until some slick mud and gravity took over. My body hates me currently, but plan to go again next weekend.

Hoping to give it a go on Monroe on Saturday. The drop in temps isn’t going to help, but we will see what happens.

My son went up to the Rainy River over the weekend, said the walleye bite was fast and furious with some huge ones caught. They snagged into a couple sturgeon with their walleye jigs but they all broke off. Said they must have seen over 20 sturgeon boated. They never kept any fish. Ice is becoming unsafe here.

I've been itching to get out with the fly rod. So, I stayed up a bit later than normal last night and tied a bunch of foam spiders. Though most of the fish were around 8-9 inches they were smackin' the spider big time this morning! I decided to fish my ole custom H L Leonard, Golden Shadow fly rod. Some reel smooth action!
