Still somewhat new to waterfowl hunting. I have always been big into kayaking and do it many times throughout the year. After realizing all the ponds were freezing up I decided to do a quick float on the white river here in town. Only went up stream about a half mile and hung tight for a bit until four mallards came right in. Only shot one because I cant seem to figure out which rounds shoot best out of my Rem 870, the rounds weren't ejecting properly and I was unable to get another shot off. Either way, river hunting is a lot of fun, even if I don't see many birds I always enjoy a nice float.

What type of shells are you shooting out of that Rem model 870? 3" or 2 3/4". What is the shotgun suppose to use?

Also, when was the last time it had a good cleaning? Since it's a pump, it should eject whatever shell the gun is supposed to digest. I can see where a 3" shell in a 2 3/4" wouldn't eject, nor is it safe to shoot a 3" in a 2 3/4" chambered gun even though they WILL chamber.

ejectors may be shot, I took my old 870 a few times this year shooting 3 inch and had some not eject. I would usually be able to slam it back shut and it would grab and eject....but not always. Mine shoots both, 2 3/4-3. I also took it apart and got it very clean after it happened the first time, done the same thing the next day. I think mine is close to 30 years old and has had a ton of shells through it, as well as thousands of popper rounds at hrc retriever events.

I have been shooting a mix of rounds including the Winchester x super, Rios, and a field & stream brand. All 2 3/4 inch, I gave my gun a good cleaning before the season. I had the same issue last year but I trap shoot a few times a year with little problems. Sometimes it will not eject properly while trap shooting but with the waterfowl rounds it’s like every time

You know guys .........they sell new guns. Take it too a gun smith and have him check out the ejector to see if it's worn and needs to be replaced.

Yea no need for a 800 to $2000 gun either, unless you are really wanting one! I replace a gun 2 yrs ago with 1187 for 400 and change. My buddy got the v3 with a rebate for like 480. Both are nice guns.
My last shotgun was the mp453 baikal. shot skeet to 3.5 inch turkey loads without a flaw. Accidentally drove over it once too. It went bang just like the high dollar guns. Bought that at Gallyans for 300ish. Told the guys I was hunting with who were mainly shooting SBE that I can buy 4 of my gun to 1 of these and still kill the birds they missed.
