Has anyone ever heard of Transient Global Amnesia? I just got home from the hospital about 2 hours ago. On Thanksgiing morning I apparently started acting odd and my wife noticed that I was repeating myself over and over and totally disoriented. She got me in the car and flew to the ER thinking stroke. I was several hours in the ER with 2 CAT scans and other things. Admitted and had MRI next morning as well as EEG and other stuff. Several doctor visits. I was kept overnight again for observation and more tests.
I know all this only because my wife and friends told me. I have absolutely no recollection of anything that occurred Thanksgiving Day and into the night, although I was aware of who I was, they tell me.
I had no retention ability at all. I would ask how I got there, be told, and then repeat the question as many as 30 or 40 times. Same with other questions. My wife asked the nurse for some duct tape to shut my mouth.
They ruled out a stroke or other organic causes, and diagnosed me with Transient Global Amnesia. This is a one-time occurrence in which your brain stops recording memories for about 24 hours. No known cause, no known cure, and it always only happens once. The doctor said that I will never recover the memories of that day, because in fact they never existed.
It only hits 2 or 3 people out of every 100,000 people over 50.
Oh well I am home safe by the fire, and am ok except for a missing day.
Fortunately it happened while I was in the house. I was headed for the deer stand in a couple of hours. That could have been bad.

I am not sure but you may still have a touch of that Global Amnesia because you posted this twice on here. BTW you need to send me that check for that $2000.00 I loaned you on Thanksgiving morning, you do remember that RIGHT!
Stay safe.

You are the second person to try that-hah!
The double posting happens sometimes when I use my smartphone, but not when I use my tablet or laptop. Don't know why.
I seem to be ok. Just sitting by the fireplace sipping coffee. Will chill out for a few days.
Thanks

Turkey coma? Results from overeating and the stomach takes all the blood from the brain for digestion.

Happened to my Mother, she's 73. She was actually driving when it happened. She was in town, going like 5 miles per hour with cars backed up behind her. Finally she just stopped. Someone came up to her and asked is she was OK and she couldn't really respond. They got her to a hospital, ran all kinds of tests and came out with your diagnosis. Been fine since.

I am 66. TGA is a mystery, only a few theories about it, but almost nothing is known.
So far 3 buddies and my nephews wife have all told me that they loaned me money that day.
I am fine now, but was pretty spooked for a couple of days after.
I live on the edge of a 500+ acre woods, and was planning on heading out to a blind or stand after lunch.
While I was repeating myself over and over and over, the nurse asked my wife if she needed anything, and she replied "do you have a sledgehammer?"
Truly though, I am thankful for family and friends that came running...

You have so much deer knowledge that your brain needed to delete some of the junk memories to make room for more deer knowledge. Glad to see everything seems to be okay.

Question. During the episode did any one say you realised some thing was wrong and when was the first time you remember that some thing was not wright or did you not notice at all.
The reason I ask is I think my dad may have hat this one time when he was still liveing. One day after cutting wood when he got out of shower he knew nothing. Did not know what day, what he did, what he was trying to do, nothing. Only lasted about 4 hrs with no after affects. Would not go to dr. He was hard headed and stubborn like his son,So no diagnosis. Always have wondered what happened that day.

Well could be. I have a vague memory of standing in our hallway in the morning, then nothing at all until late that night, when I was in the hospital room driving my wife and best friend crazy.
Did he know who he was and who you were etc? Repeatedly asking the same thing over and over is a sure sign, as your memory tries and fails to get traction. Then it goes away, you are normal, and never happens again. Just missing the time, never to be recovered.
You will know who you are and all your particulars, but the memories of the previous hours just don't exist.
How old was he? 60'S is common, or early 70's.
Have an appt tomorrow for follow up, feeling fine, BP is a little high but not bad.
Oddly, I have a "memory" of a disco song playing over and over in my head. TORTURE!
It is snowing here a little, I watched a coyote cross the field earlier but didn't get a chance to step out and shoot. Planning on going out tomorrow with a bud to try and tag one of these bucks.
Right now, sitting by the fire watching an old movie and sipping coffee. Life is good!

The cause is not known, but a few possible triggers are. One is sudden immersion in hot or cold water. Or, yes, sexual intercourse.
So maybe the hot shower?

You could be on to something there with that sexual intercourse.....I remember President Bill Clinton having sex with a women and telling the whole world he didn't remember having sex with her.

It seems that something is going on. This Transient Global Amnesia appears to hit a lot of people globally the last couple weeks. Over the web noise there has been some noise about people losing minutes to days of all ages. Seems to be happening on specific days. Like the 15th and 22nd. Like 0.2-.3% of the population. I'm flagging this one and see what shows tomorrow and the next couple week/months. Thanks for beginning it up.

It is linked to depression and migraines. I'm guessing the holidays have something to do with it. I knew someone that lost most of a day (doesn't remember anything) and this person suffers from migraines.

Did not know that. I don't have migraines, although over the years I have at times been given mild anti depressants for something called seasonal affective disorder. No craziness, just in the dead of winter I would have no motivation and sleep excessively. They helped, then when the days started getting longer I would quit them and get active again.
Neurologist told me that even today with all the modern research, we know so little about the human brain.
Well, gotta go, I need to dig this alien implant out of my neck...

Some the noise that it hit a lot of children and young ones. What happened isn't from age or stress. Government is looking into it. Religions are calling end times and God is speeding up time. I'm watching this one close.
